Rock till you drop

Rock music doesn’t get near the exposure of R&B or hip hop on radio, and TV isn’t too far behind either in this prejudice of sorts.

8TV Unzipped hopes to sail these waters, territories visited by similar programmes like Rocker’s Garage, Blastoff and Homegrown, and place its broadcaster 8TV at the top of the pile as propagators of rock

Unzipped aspires to showcase 12 remarkably talented and entertaining local bands and artistes, and have them perform in front of a live audience, all part of the search for the most entertaining live act.

According to producer Sunil Kumar, Unzipped’s brief is to provide leverage for local indie artistes or bands making waves in the Malaysian music scene.

“The title 8TV Unzipped is in reference to the musicians behind the music; their personalities, backgrounds, influences and inspirations. Hence, the show aims to ‘unzip’ their stories and not the music directly, though indirectly, the music will be positively represented. We are working closely with our sister company Monkey Bone Records in organising these sessions.”

Yes, you are right Suffian.., you're always the first to comment. Since "Overcoming Stage Right", "Getting Started..." and now this. Great job and thank you. Hmm.., you have triggered me to come with the idea of creating an award. Yeah, why not? Hehehe.

I also noticed you have read quite an interesting article. But why don't you explain more about it? No need to quote too much. Just explain what you have understand using your own words, will you? For example you could refer to what Elizabeth from Section P14 had comments for her readings. Ok, Suffian? I'm looking forward to read from you soon! ;)

To the rest of the class who haven't post anything yet, what are you waiting for? Suffian is getting started and leaving you guys behind.

Till I write again, cheers and thank you!

The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau

I bought this book about three years ago. I have read it so many times. It's a good novel it's fun to read.

The story is about a young girl and a young boy who discovered a new world beside the world that they had been living in.

Many hundreds of years ago, the city of Ember was built by the Builders that contains everyting that needed for human to survive there.

The plan of the Builders worked...but now the food supply are almost gone, corruption is spreading through the city and the worst is the light are failing. Soon the city of Ember will be engulfed by darkness.

When the the boy Doon and the girl Lina discovered the fragment of ancient parchment they was wondering if there is a new world beside the city of Ember.

They learn the pieces of the parchment and finnaly they discover that there are way out from the city of Ember. The parchment are the notes from the Builders when the city of Ember are lack of human need...but the parchment was missing during the fight of the mayor of the city.

When the found the way out of the city they throw a piece of paper to tell everyone in the city about the new world that contain enough food and source to survive...

My comment of this novel is it was easy to understand and it was fun to read when there are many suspen part and when they try to put the piece of the puzzle together...that's all thank you.

Harry Potter - Half-Blood Prince by J.K Rowling

As ussual it is a story of a famous Harry Potter. At fist Britain being attack by the monster/ghost called 'death eater'. Then, at summer time Harry live with his friend at The Burrow with his friend family.Harry and Ron knows to become an Auror, they has to take a very hard examination. So they had to study hard like me. hehe.. At Hogwarts, Harry recieve a book of potion and at the back of the books write 'this was the property of the half blood prince'. and then bla.bla.. Then Harry and his professor named 'Dumbledore' go to a secret cave to destroy one of the remaining Horcux Voldemort(evil things lorh). Then when they go back to Hogsmeade, they fight with Draco(one of the Voldermort follower). Then, Snape kill Dumbledore and reavels that he is the half blood prince. The school got a new headmistress 'McGonagall'. At the end Harry decide to leave the school to searh for a remaining Horcux. They were all live happily ever after. Fuhh, what a wonderful story.

for me this story was hard to understand at first. but i just keep reading it. this story was not bored. but some of its phrase or words was hard to understand. i suggest if anyone wants to read it besure to know it previous story.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows written by J.K.Rowling.

As we all know this is the seventh book of Harry Potter and the final series. This is my third time reading this book but unfortunately I’m unable to finish it in time before the semester starts again :(

Anyway let me tell you a bit of the story. In the sixth book Lord Voldermort has returned but not any of the ministry of magic believes in Harry only the Oder of Phoenix (refer fifth book) believes in him and also his best friends Hermione and Ron.

Harry didn't continue his study at Hogwarts because of the search of Horcruxes (Voldermort split his soul into seven things or something like that the things called Horcruxes). He also discovered about the tales of Deathly Hollows which they are fairytale but he found out it was legend and Voldermort were searching for the elder wand or the Wand of Destiny or Deathstick. It has to defeated the master of the wand and become the next master of the wand.

At the battle between Harry and Voldermort, Voldermort manage to kill Harry but he does not realize that Harry is one of the Horcruxes. So Harry pretends to be dead and was carried to Hogwarts by Hagrid where the battle is. There Harry sneaked in to the invisible cloak when Neville killed the seventh Horcruxes. He had a dual with Voldermort and finally the master of the elder wand survive.

Nineteen years later, Harry had three children with Ginny and Hermione and Ron had two children. The End.

My comment is I love Harry Potter I never missed the novel and I never get tired of reading it. It was fun to read. That's all thank you.

Chapter one can be plotted as shown on the diagram. It can be summarised as:

It is 1933 in Loomis, a town in West Auckland. The Potters are poor. They depend on what ever work Mr Potter can pick up as well as the occasional meal with his parents. Colin Potter decides to go to his grandparents for a snack but elects to go the long way up the creek to Loomis. He meets Herbert Muskie, a fat man who has returned to Loomis after 20 years away, who forces him to burgle old Mrs Muskie's house...The message of the book, that evil does not win

that's all , thank for viewing my comment...
sorry for the comment, i just cut and paste from internet..

Assalamualaikum and very good evening.here i want to tell you about our Prophet Muhammad's history.i have read many story about Prophet Muhammad such as his family backgroud, the date when he became Messenger of Allah, the 'hijrah', and also the war.my favorite part is when he involved in war.

There are many war that he involved such as Badar, Khaibar, Khandak, Uhud, and many more.now i want to tell you guys about the summary of all the wars.hope i still remember.

My favorite story of his war is Badar.Badar's war start on 17 Ramadan 2 Hijrah.it happened in Badar's hill.at this time muslims only have 313 army whereas non muslims have 1000 army.but at the end of the war, the muslims won.

The next war is Khandak or as known as Ahzab.in 'takbir raya', if you noticed, they have mentioned the Ahzab.so in this war, they have digged the drain aroud their camp and they put the fire.so, the non muslim think that muslim is so many that make them afraid to fight with muslim team.meanwhile, while the muslim kept digging the drain, they have to tie up their stomach with a few of rock to prevent hungry.at that night, Prophet Muhammad get his 'mukjizat' that can make the sup that they eat is enough for everybody eventhough the sup is little.when war start, again, muslim won the war.

But,different from Uhud's war where muslim and non muslim draw.it happens when the team that should guard at the top of Uhud's hill come down to collect the non muslim belongings.this happens because they do not listen to Muhammad's order.so the non muslim manage to stay at the top of the hill and kill all the muslims.

so,the moral that i got from the story is we must follow our leader's order and never ever be greed.

I hope that miss can understand my story because i know maybe my grammar is horrible.hehe.if only i can tell the story in malay,i am sure that the story can be interesting story because it relate to us.thank you

Hello everyone!!

I just read Dr Mahathir Mohamad's blog. I am very sure that we all know him very well right? He was our country Prime Minister from 1981 to 2003. His blog is dedicated for him to publish his writing as when he is able to pen his thoughts and opinions. All the things he said was very interesting.

I just want to share with you guys on one of his article title Remembering the Independence Fighters. He said that UMNO decided to get our country independence by negotiation and not war as they realized that there were not very much chances to win against British at that time. Nobody can ask about our independence. Not only we managed to build a country better than the coloniser, but we are freely to criticise the coloniser when they act violently or not fair anywhere to anyone. We have our own right to speak.

One of the fighter is Dato' Onn, the first Yang Dipertua UMNO, the person that leads UMNO and the Malays to overcomed British plan to conquered the Malay states. He lead the poor Malays that is not united to united in UMNO to fight British until the British had to followed the Malays and demolished the Malayan Union.Dato' Onn service for the Malays and UMNO was very big.

However, the Malays were easily to forget our independence fighter service. They didn't give any appreciation to these people. Dato' Onn should be appreciate the same as Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Trully, the Malays are easily to forget.

So guys, I hope you understand what he is trying to say to us. So let us, our country future generation leaders, stand up together and unite so that we could build a country that the people live in harmony and peace. We must also not to forget our country independence fighters that had sacrifice many things so that we can live in harmony right now. If they can do it, I can't see any reason why we cannot do it. We must sacrifice our time to study rather than playing or speaking nonsense. Only we can save our country in the future because we are our country next future leaders.

So guys, work harder for the sake of our country.

Thank you.

PS, I LOVE YOU by Cecilia Ahern...

it is a story about a woman named Holly Kennedy's life after her beloved husband,Gerry died...
when Gerry's life is taken by an illness, it takes the life out of Holly.
The only one who can help her is the person who is no longer there.
Nobody knows Holly better than Gerry. So it's a good thing he planned ahead.
Before he died, Gerry wrote Holly a series of 10 letters that will guide her,
not only through her grief but in rediscovering herself. The messages are Gerry's
way of informing Holly life goes on. The messages include various tasks and treats
Gerry has left for Holly. This is his way of letting her know he will always be there
for her. In the months that follow, more letters from Gerry are delivered in surprising
ways, each sending her on a new adventure and each signing off in the
same way: "P.S. I Love You." Holly's mother and best friends, Sharon and Denise,
begin to worry that Gerry's letters are keeping Holly tied to the past, but, in fact,
each letter is pushing her further into a new future. With Gerry's words as her
guide, Holly embarks on a journey of rediscovery in a story about marriage,
friendship and how a love so strong can turn the finality of death into new beginning for
life.

Gerry's actions impressed me so much...i really enjoyed reading this novel that i want to
read it again and again..after i've read this novel, i am now becoming a big fan of
Cecelia Ahern..

there is also a film adaptation of this novel which was released in 2007 with Hillary Swank
acted as Holly Kennedy...i've seen this film too...huhu.but i think the book is better than
the film..so,i suggest you to read this novel as it is an interesting novel to be read
you wont get bored reading this novel...believe me that you wont regret if you buy one..hehe.

IF YOU COULD SEE ME NOW by Cecelia Ahern...

The story is set in present-day Ireland, in a small town in County Cork that has traffic jams from tourist buses but still serves instant coffee at the local restaurant. There is no local Starbucks. The protagonist, Elizabeth Egan, is in her mid-thirties. At age eleven, when her younger sister Saoirse was born, their mother departs from her daughters and their father for a life of freedom. Elizabeth holds their home together while continuing her schooling. When Saoirse gives birth to Luke, Elizabeth again reassumes a maternal role. This time, she leaves her life in New York City to move back home to Ireland where she owns and runs a design firm.

When six-year-old Luke begins to hum a tune that he learned from a new playmate named Ivan, Elizabeth learns of his imaginary friend. Naturally, she is quite distressed but is reassured to learn that this quirky incident in Luke's life likely will end on its own in a few months. It says so on the Internet. However, Elizabeth's very orderly and organized life is due for some changes. Soon she too begins to hum Ivan's catchy tune. A chair in the office spins for no reason and Elizabeth feels a new presence.

When Elizabeth meets a man named Ivan, she assumes him to be the father of one of Luke's friends, and not Luke's imaginary friend. The two hit it off and soon become fast friends. His presence in her life changes everything. As they talk together about Elizabeth's early life and her dreams, Ivan takes Elizabeth out of her organized routines. He listens to her, and she in turn listens to him. When he tells her "It's the extras that make life," Elizabeth realizes that she missed much of the extras in her life. Ivan encourages the child in her to come forth, and she begins to have fun. With Ivan's help, Elizabeth recaptures some of the childhood she missed and remembers more about her mother. Eventually, she is able to forgive the people who made her grow up too fast.

Elizabeth's work life also changes. When her presentation for an important new design job does not go well, it is Ivan's presence that enables Elizabeth to turn to her assistant Poppy for her ideas. They win the contract for the hotel that is to be built around a tower that had protected the small town from approaching attackers during the Viking Age. Benjamin, the attractive project manager, approaches Elizabeth, hoping they will work together. Both want to make sure that the owner's ideas and Poppy's will still create a hotel that appeals to the tourist and yet feels like it belongs to the community.

Ivan has inspired Elizabeth, and as she understands more about herself, she pushes ahead on a new idea she has for the hotel --- a special room for children. She finishes the project the day the hotel opens. Elizabeth knows she has created her own version of "the land of Ekam Eveileb."

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HERE by Cecelia Ahern...

hehe.another novel by Cecelia Ahern...

The ironically named Sandy Shortt, a very tall female with black hair, has devoted her life to finding the missing things and people of Ireland. As a child, she worried her parents with her obsessive searching for lost objects to the point that they took her to psychiatrist Gregory Burton. At Burton's, 14-year-old Sandy promptly loses one more thing --- her heart. Despite her love for Burton, he cannot solve her puzzling obsession with missing objects and people. Yet they form a close friendship that sustains her as she makes her way through life, joining the Irish police force when she graduates and then forming her own detective agency to search for missing persons.

Sandy’s most recent case brings her into telephone contact with Jack Ruttle, who calls hoping that she will search for his missing brother Donal. They agree to meet; both feel a special and unusual connection to the other over the phone, although the purpose of the meeting is to discuss finding Donal. Jack is shocked when Sandy doesn't show up; he is convinced that something is terribly wrong when she doesn't answer her phone, and so he decides to search for her.

Meanwhile, something extraordinary has happened to Sandy, who had stopped to jog along a canal. She becomes lost and can’t find her way back to her car. In fact, she is in a forest so unlike any place in Ireland that she knows without a doubt that she is no longer in her country. But how can that be?

Sandy wanders for two days in the odd land, wondering if she is dreaming, dead, or in a coma. Finally, she heads deeper into the woods, where she encounters a small group of welcoming people sitting around a campfire. But when she asks where they are, she is met with shocked silence, followed by bizarre answers: "We're dead," volunteers one of the campers, at least partly in jest.

Almost immediately, Sandy knows who these people are. She had read about them long ago and become fascinated with their story. Five students from a boarding school had gone missing on a camping trip in the ’60s. And now Sandy is sitting around a campfire with these individuals, lost before she was even born. Before Sandy can reconcile herself to this bewildering development, she is overwhelmed by one huge mystery after another as the group leads her to a village full of lost people, surrounded by missing objects. Less substantial lost things waft over them, such as the lost memory of a laugh or the forgotten scent of a baby's skin. As Sandy encounters some of the missing people she has searched for, she wonders why she is here. And, although she is told that no one can leave, she yearns for home.

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HERE is unlike any book I have ever read, and it will haunt me for a very long time. Author Cecelia Ahern is a master storyteller, pulling readers in and not letting them go until they reach the conclusion of this amazing tale of yearning, loss and hope.

Once i read this novel,I am fully surprised of the languages use by the author,Gaston Leroux that are unique and easily to understand. The way he structured the story line makes the reader wants to know more about the story until the end.The Phantom of the Opera, the best known of all of Leroux's works, is a horror romance published by the French publishing house Lafitte as Le Fantome de l'Opera. Mills and Boon of all people were responsible in the following year for the English version. Though much loved by readers and consistently popular the story was panned in its first New York Times review and has suffered from criticism elsewhere for being too populist. Leroux himself claimed in the opening of the novel that, "The Opera Ghost really existed. He was not, as was longed believed, a creature

of the imagination of the artists... Yes, he existed in flesh and blood, although he assumed the complete appearance of a real phantom; that is to say, of a spectral shade". Whether you believe this or not the story remains a compelling one. There is rumour at the Grand Paris Opera House of the existence of a ghost who has his own box at performances, and suspicion is turned to him when Joseph Buquet's death is reported. Viscount Raoul de Chagny then visits a performer Christine after her fine performance as a stand-in in "Faust". He hears mysterious voices in the dressing room but opens the door to find no one there.
