What i've got from this surah is that Luqman's advices to his son.he advises his son not join in worship (others) with Allah because false worship is indeed the highest wrong doing.next, he said to his son that he must do something nice towards his parents and obey his parents as long as the parents not ask to join in worship (others) with Allah.he also reminds his son that Allah know everything that we do, ask his son to pray and do nice things yet prevent bad things also try to be patient.

he said again that shouldn't be brag of what we have and use low voice when talk to others.

surah Luqman:13-19

this is an interesting fenomenon about bermuda triangle.

The Bermuda Triangle or "Devil's Triangle" is a triangular-shaped area off the coast of Florida that is famous for reports in which strange disappearances occur and magnetic compasses go haywire. The area is situated in the Atlantic Ocean and is generally thought of as having apexes at Miami, Bermuda, and San Juan. This area contains some of the deepest sub-oceanic trenches in the world, encompasses the fast-moving waters of the Gulf Stream, and has frequent strong water spouts and violent storms, making at least some of the reported odd phenomena attributable to human error or mishap.

Title: Found 20 light years away: the new earth

This is an article about founding of a new planet for us to be inhibiting in the future. The USA scientists have been searching for another planet for us to live when the earth will be destroyed. I don’t know weather it is true or not but the planet been studied by the scientists and they found that we may be able to live there.

The discovery was announced today by a team of European astronomers, using a telescope in La Silla in the Chilean Andes. If forced bookies to slash odds on the existence of alien. We don't yet know much about this planet, but scientists believe that it may be the best candidate so far for supporting extraterrestrial life beings.

Plus it also has a suitable temperature that is almost the same as earth. In our solar system, only one planet - Earth -lies in the Goldilocks Zone. Venus is far too hot and Mars is just too cold. This new planet lies bang in the middle of the zone, with average surface temperatures estimated to be between zero and 40c (32-102f). Lakes, rivers and even oceans are possible.

The new planet, so far unnamed, is 20.5 light years away and orbits a red dwarf star called Gliese 581. I don’t know weather to believe it or not because the universe is wide and we had so many more to be found and explore. That’s all thank you.

Assalamualaikum to all my friends.......
today i want to share with you all about one hot topic in NST(11/09/2008)...this story about one house owner found a bomb in his house... What happen to that bomb????? What the police do to destroy it???? You can read it at this site

http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/
NST/Thursday/National/2346658/Article/index_html

This are a short news i take from the newspaper:
MANJUNG: "Demolish my house if you can't safely detonate the bomb."
That request was made by house owner Kamarudin Johari, 40, to the police, after a World War 2 bomb was found underneath his house at Kampung Batu Tiga, Segiri, on Sunday.
"I told them that if it was too much trouble (to safely detonate the bomb), just demolish the front portion of the house where the bomb lies underneath. "They said that they would arrange sandbags around the bomb to contain the blast and limit the damage," he said yesterday.

Police said that the bomb would have to be detonated at the site as it was dangerous to move it.
Kamarudin said he did not know where his late father got the bomb.

In fact, the family was not even told about it.

"All these years the bomb was lying next to gardening equipment, pieces of wood, pipes and some const
ruction material."

That's all, thank you...

Transistor-Transistor Logic

With the rapid development of integrated circuits (ICs), new problems were encountered and new solutions were developed. One of the problems with DTL circuits was that it takes as much room on the IC chip to construct a diode as it does to construct a transistor. Since "real estate" is exceedingly important in ICs, it was desirable to find a way to avoid requiring large numbers of input diodes. But what could be used to replace many diodes?
Well, looking at the DTL NAND gate to the right, we might note that the opposed diodes look pretty much like the two junctions of a transistor. In fact, if we were to have an inverter, it would have a single input diode, and we just might be able to replace the two opposed diodes with an NPN transistor to do the same job. In fact, this works quite nicely. The figure to the left shows the resulting inverter. In addition, we can add multiple emitters to the input transistor without greatly increasing the amount of space needed on the chip. This allows us to construct a multiple-input gate in almost the same space as an inverter. The resulting savings in real estate translates to a significant savings in manufacturing costs, which in turn reduces the cost to the end user of the device. One problem shared by all logic gates with a single output transistor and a pull-up collector resistor is switching speed. The transistor actively pulls the output down to logic 0, but the resistor is not active in pulling the output up to logic 1. Due to inevitable factors such as circuit capacitances and a characteristic of bipolar transistors called "charge storage," it will take a certain amount of time for the transistor to turn completely off and the output to rise to a logic 1 level. This limits the frequency at which the gate can operate.
The designers of commercial TTL IC gates reduced that problem by modifying the output circuit. The result was the "totem pole" output circuit used in most of the 7400/5400 series TTL ICs. The final circuit used in most standard commercial TTL ICs is shown to the right. The number of inputs may vary — a commercial IC package might have six inverters, four 2-input gates, three 3-input gates, or two 4-input gates. An 8-input gate in one package is also available. But in each case, the circuit structure remains the same.

DNA

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is a nucleic acid that contains the genetic instructions used in the development and functioning of all known living organisms and some viruses. The main role of DNA molecules is the long-term storage of information. DNA is often compared to a set of blueprints or a recipe, since it contains the instructions needed to construct other components of cells, such as proteins and RNA molecules. The DNA segments that carry this genetic information are called genes, but other DNA sequences have structural purposes, or are involved in regulating the use of this genetic information.

Chemically, DNA consists of two long polymers of simple units called nucleotides, with backbones made of sugars and phosphate groups joined by ester bonds. These two strands run in opposite directions to each other and are therefore anti-parallel. Attached to each sugar is one of four types of molecules called bases. It is the sequence of these four bases along the backbone that encodes information. This information is read using the genetic code, which specifies the sequence of the amino acids within proteins. The code is read by copying stretches of DNA into the related nucleic acid RNA, in a process called transcription.

Within cells, DNA is organized into structures called chromosomes. These chromosomes are duplicated before cells divide, in a process called DNA replication. Eukaryotic organisms (animals, plants, fungi, and protists) store their DNA inside the cell nucleus, while in prokaryotes (bacteria and archae) it is found in the cell's cytoplasm. Within the chromosomes, chromatin proteins such as histones compact and organize DNA. These compact structures guide the interactions between DNA and other proteins, helping control which parts of the DNA are transcribed.

i read about an article about an aeroplane...because for my project my group decided to choose about it.......and i think it very interresting because i'm sure that you all do not know enough about an aeroplane...how it build...how can it fly...and above it about the shape-wing:
A fixed-wing aircraft is a heavier-than-air craft whose lift is generated not by wing motion relative to the aircraft, but by forward motion through the air. The term is used to distinguish from rotary-wing aircraft or ornithopters, where the movement of the wing surfaces relative to the aircraft generates lift. In the US and Canada, the term airplane is used, though around the rest of the English speaking world, including Ireland and Commonwealth nations the spelling aeroplane is more common. These terms refer to any fixed wing aircraft powered by propellers or jet engines. The word derives from the Greek αέρας (aéras-) ("air") and -plane.[1] The spelling "aeroplane" is the older of the two, dating back to the mid-late 19th century.[2] Fixed-wing aircraft may be manned or not; they may be large or tiny; every fixed-wing aircraft is open to being scale modeled by perhaps a smaller or larger mimic fixed wing aircraft. Many fixed-wing aircraft may be remotely controlled or robot controlled.

I just finished read an article about zodiac from the internet. Since i was born on 29th of june,my zodiac is CANCER(21 June-22 July)...here,i want to share some of the inputs that I got from the article.

Based from the article,my zodiac ruled by the moon and by the element of Water.Somes of the celebrities who were born same zodiac with me are Prince William,Robin Williams,Myke Tyson,Julius Caesar and Tom Cruise...

this article said that i loved to talked about my childhood and shared my history and i think it exactly was me. I may seem tough, and try to survive by pretending to be indiffirent but, actually i have a soft heart....hmmm,i dont think so..haha..

In making decision,I always affected by my emotions...its quite true but sometimes only....hehe..

it also said that I am a happy person and never focused on the past...very interested in where am I going and in planning a future that incorporates the interests and happiness of those who I love....

Always hide my emotions and will hold on to emotional trauma or hurt and might think that other people should understand what i feel without having to explain how i feel. Sometimes, I may become silent and moody....hmm...

this article also mentioned that i have an instinctive understanding of how others feel and care deeply....and also will do anything to protect my family and friends..

hmm,i am not really sure about this...it said that i am gentle, sensitive and easily hurt...huhuhuhu....

Will thrive as a professor or teacher,in a customer service or hospitality career,or a nurse or social worker. Really love children and often choose work that will put me in contatc with youngsters.....i deeply agree with this part...hehe..

I may choose A Virgo or Taurus as a friend, and my best romantic match will probably be with someone who born under the zodiac sign of Cancer,or with a scorpio..hah,it is true???hmm,i just can wait and see...

selamat berbuka...!!!!
this is the further explanation for the structure(wing) for an aeroplane......
Fixed-wing aircraft range from small training and recreational aircraft to large wide-body aircraft and military cargo aircraft. The word also embraces aircraft with folding or removable wings that are intended to fold when on the ground. This is usually to ease storage or facilitate transport on, for example, a vehicle trailer or the powered lift connecting the hangar deck of an aircraft carrier to its flight deck. It also embraces "variable geometry" aircraft, such as the General Dynamics F-111, Grumman F-14 Tomcat and the Panavia Tornado, which can vary the sweep angle of their wings during flight. There are also rare examples of aircraft which can vary the angle of incidence of their wings in flight, such the F-8 Crusader, which are also considered to be "fixed-wing".

An F-16 Fighting Falcon, an American military fixed-wing aircraftThe two necessities for fixed-wing aircraft are air flow over the wings for lifting of the aircraft, and an area for landing. The majority of aircraft, however, also need an airport with the infrastructure to receive maintenance, restocking, refueling and for the loading and unloading of crew, cargo and passengers. Some aircraft are capable of take off and landing on ice, aircraft carriers, snow, and calm water.

The aircraft is the second fastest method of transport, after the rocket. Commercial jet aircraft can reach up to 1000 km/h. Single-engined, piston-driven aircraft are capable of reaching up to 425 km/h. Supersonic aircraft (military, research and a few private aircraft) can reach speeds faster than sound. The speed record for a plane powered by an air-breathing engine is held by the experimental NASA X-43, which reached nearly ten times the speed of sound.

The biggest aircraft built is the Antonov An-225, while the fastest still in production is the Mikoyan MiG-31. The biggest supersonic jet ever produced is the Tupolev Tu-160.

Hi everyone, today i like to share a new story that i get from internet. Do you believe that animal can survive in space??? i don't know wether this story is true or not.... i hope you can read on your own....

Unique animal species can survive in space.
Water bears are the first animals in the world to have survived exposure to the vacuum and radiation of space.
Water bears (tardigrades) are multicellular, invertebrate animals about one millimeter in size. They exist in nearly all ecosystems of the world. What makes them unique is that they can survive repeated dehydration and can lose nearly all the water they have in their bodies. When dehydrated, they enter into a dormant state in which the body contracts and metabolism ceases. In this death-like dormant state, water bears manage to maintain the structures in their cells until water is available and they can be active again.

CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET? by SOPHIE KINSELLA...

this story is quite funny...i've read this novel when i was in form 4...it's such an interesting novel...it's about Emma Corrigan's life,...
Believing she is about to perish in a plane wreck, Emma Corrigan babbles out her secrets, desires and idiosyncrasies to the handsome and reassuring man seated next to her. Having survived (Emma, with her own jangled mind, was doubtful of this), she shows up for work the next day only to be introduced to that seatmate. He's the CEO of the U.S.-based Panther Cola she's been marketing.

As she tries to recover her professional stature with her boss Emma finds herself enmeshed in a tangled web of her own weaving as she tries to get to know more about Jack. It should be noted that Emma has considerable help at her crazy loom from her flatmates Lissy and Jemima. At the same time Jack is trying to get to know Emma, but his thoughts are more business-based than romance-based. Emma to him is a fine marketing specimen of a young working woman in her twenties. This part of the plot wears thin.

The early chapters, in which Emma's flight from Glasgow begins a precipitous plunge and she begins her ill-considered true confessions, are quite engaging and spring out of a genuinely sympathetic perspective: so many people are prone to chatter when in shock. And the comic element of having Emma's business-class seatmate wind up being her boss is classic stuff.

But Jack's "betrayal" of Emma does not seem genuine. Perhaps it's a cultural divide, but it's difficult to believe that any television show, even one on "Business Inspirations," would allow a CEO to go on and on about the tiny details Jack reveals, from Emma's Barbie bedspread to her borrowing her roommate's shoes (not to mention the other information about her roommate --- mortification alert!) Jack uses the elements of Emma's character that have made her so believable as a business ploy --- but what ensues feels like forced farce.

Asalamualaikum, today as usual I would like to share my information about what I have read from The Star newspaper today ,It is about the clash between two greatest team in spanish league to grab a title league for this year.My favourite team Real Madrid,is compete with The Catalan Club in spanish league,Barcelona. But both team struggle to grab the title because both team face a unexpected challenge in thier first match.Real lost to Deportiva La Caruna 2-1.while Barcelona lost to Numancia 1-0 about fortnight ago.Real also faces a problem as thier valuable player ,Robinho wants to transfer to English League club,Manchester City....So in order to overcome the problem real's coach tries to sign a new striker for Robinho's replacement ,a top scorer in Euro 2008 David Villa seem a suitable player for Robinho's ,however David Villa rejects the offer because he still wants to play for Valencia..Valencia start spanish league with victory after defeat Real Mallorca 3-0...This is second Real's frustation as they also fail to sign Christiano Ronaldo during the summer open window transfer. While Barcelona having a problem because of player injury. No good striker to create a goal....that is a main problem for Barcelona right now.....But both team can prove that they still the best club in europe if they can beat thier opponent on this sunday morning match.....

Asalam, today I just want to tell about the cruelty of Israeli's army,

Beit Hanoun invasion 01.11.2006 - 07.11.2006

Since the capture of an Israeli soldier in a cross-border raid by Palestinian militants on 25 June, Israel launched a major military operation that has gone on for more than four months and led to the death of around 350 Palestinians many of them civilians. During that time, three Israelis soldiers have died.

In one of Israel's biggest raids into Gaza in recent months, troops carried out three air strikes and moved to encircle the town of Beit Hanoun. The town in northern Gaza Strip was at the centre of a major, ongoing Israeli military operation during the week, Israeli army says its aim is to prevent groups like Islamic Jihad firing missiles across the nearby border into southern Israel. The rocket attacks are simply retaliation for daily Israeli raids and killings in Gaza, and over in the occupied West Bank. The crudely made rockets often cause panic and minor injury, but they very rarely kill.

The town of Beit Hanoun has been under the very tight control of a large force of tanks and troops who have ordered the tens of thousands of local people to stay off the streets for all but very brief periods. The Israelis destroyed Beit Hanoun, they destroyed the infrastructure, cut the water pipes and the telephone lines. Hundreds of men have been rounded up and questioned, and some have been taken away to Israel. The entire town of Beit Hanoun remains under Israeli control and troops have ordered residents to stay indoors.

More than 60 Palestinians and an Israeli soldier were killed in a week-long operation.

It is almost impossible for journalists to get into the town, but the World Food Programme spokeswoman, Kirstie Campbell, was among United Nations aid workers allowed to bring in emergency rations and medicines, " The people were asking for a lot of things. They were asking for food, for milk, and they were very worried about relatives that have been detained." "You could really see that the people are suffering.

A young Palestinian woman has blown herself up in a bomb attack on Israeli troops in northern Gaza, injuring one soldier but also wounding a number of civilians. The bombing came in the northern town of Beit Hanoun. Palestinians regard the attack as an act of desperate resistance.

Earlier, a 17-year-old Palestinian boy was killed in an air strike on the northern town of Jabaliya. During the Jabaliya air strike, at least four people were hurt in the attack near a school. The Israeli military said its aircraft had attacked a group of militants retrieving a device used to fire a missile. But the Palestinians said the plane missed its target and, instead, struck close to a school.

At least two women died when an Israeli shell struck the home of Jamila Shanti, an MP from the ruling Palestinian party Hamas. Ms Shanti has been identified as the organiser of a women's protest on Friday to free militants sheltering in a mosque, that was fired on by Israeli troops killing two unarmed protesters.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Ismail Haniya have called the operation a "massacre" and urged the UN Security Council to convene to discuss the issue. Pope Benedict XVI said he was very worried about the situation in Gaza, and called on all sides to work to stop the bloodshed and to immediately resume direct and concrete negotiations. The European Union presidency, currently held by Finland, has issued a statement deploring "the growing number of civilian casualties the Israeli military operation has caused". The Red Cross has criticised the killing by Israeli force of paramedics. The International Red Cross also criticised Israel for the killing of two medical workers, saying that the paramedics and their vehicle were clearly marked.

What usually you play ?
Boys maybe cars or robot, girls might be dolls or their mini tea set.
There are a Strong Museum of Play's Toy Hall of Fame in New York.
In order to be in list, the toy must be encouraged creativity and learning. They must also prove their longetivity at least 20 years.
Rubber Ducky, a simple yellow duck with brightly-hued rubber was in list ! As since 1970, it had been enjoy by kids in their bath-tubs.
For Sony Playstation and Nintendo Wii still have to wait decade or more before they can place their name in list. So sad ....

As A-type people you cant gave them B or else it could be fatal !
However O is the universal blood, which suit every types.
In that case, research had been done by ZymeQuest, in Beverly, Massachusetts. Where there is a posiblity that all blood type can be convert into O-type by removing the sugar molecules that dictate blood type. Do you ever think to do that before ?

If you watch chinese movie, I believe many people thinks that it was a hobby for chinese people to drink tea exspecially old man. However they do bring benefits actually !

Tea contain theanine which can relax ur mind where you are still alert. Beside that, it also contain natural antioxidants that help our body protect itself from harmful effects of free radical. In the same time, tea do also act as an important source of fluids to help healthy adults meet their daily requirement of 8 glasses of fluids every day.

So why don't give it a try, a cup of tea every morning. There are many types of tea like green tea and black-tea or red-tea are the common you can found. Beside there even many ways to serve it either cold or hot, sugar or non-sugar, with milk, or even mix with fruit juice.

today i'm very happy because i have finished my wiring practical... last weekend i was watch harry potter movie "the goblet of fire" it is about a Quidditch World Cup bang, the sequence feels rushed and
secondary, like a highlight reel of the book's opening chapters. Soon enough, Newell assembles the relevant troops: The students of two rival academies of magic convene at Hogwarts for a grand Triwizard Tournament, with one student from each school chosen by the Goblet of Fire to take part in an enchantment triathlon.
From Durmstrang comes Viktor Krum (Stanislav Ianevski), Quidditch star and glowering Slavic jock. From Madame Maxime's Beauxbatons comes Fleur Delacour (Clemence Poesy) -- think Ludwig Bemelman's Madeline all grown up and with a wicked knack for casting spells. And from Hogwarts comes Cedric Diggory (Robert Pattinson), upperclassman, dreamboat, all-around good chap.
Then the Goblet has the effrontery to belch out one more name for the contest: Harry Potter. Because everyone assumes that Harry has engineered this development, all of Hogwarts turns against him in a fickle rage. Now this is adolescence: humiliation, isolation, an inflamed sense of social persecution that may or may not be deserved. Suddenly Harry is no longer the hero of the tale but its goat. All that's missing is acne.
The tournament's three conte
sts provide the excuse for the expected state-of-the-art CGI whizzbangery, and they are visual marvels. A Hungarian Horntail dragon perched angrily atop Hogwarts' highest spire, a seaweedy underwater world of beastly mermaids, a maze of perversely mobile hedges -- these are images with staying power, like Arthur Rackham illustrations sprung to life. They don't feel multiplex-trendy but organic to the series' darkening tone.

I actually know this guy after watching the movie 'catch me if you can'.Well, after all the movie was all about him actually.Although the film itself had been twisted a bit for dramatic purposes.

You see, Frank William Abagnale Jr. was a very talented con-man. Yes,he is a criminal. He is a brilliant trickster, forger and impostor.More surprisingly, he started all that at the age of 16.
He was a specialist in check fraud, where he had actually managed to print his own almost-perfect copies of checks, depositing them and persuading banks to advance the cash to his accounts.During that time, he had at least impersonates as 8 different persons.

He had impersonates as pilot, teacher, doctor, attorney, and even when he got prisoned,he play the role as an undercover prison inspector.Which helped him to get out of there.Eventually, he got busted anyway. After serving his prison time, the FBI got him to associated with them on check fraud cases.

He now has his own firm that advises the bussiness world on fraud.

What actually I want to say is, with a rock-solid confident, well-prepared, hardwork,a bit of luck, you can succeed in anything you do.How can you tell?just look at this guy, Frank William Abagnale Jr.

During last weekend, i went back home..I've read an article about Ramadhan..

For over one billion Muslims throughout the world, Ramadhan is a special month of the year. During the month of Ramadhan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset every day. This mean, the Muslims can't eat or drink anything for about twelve hours. Ramadhan was the month in which the first verses of the holy Qur'an were revealed to Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.. It is a time for inner reflection, devotion to God and self-control. The sighting of the new moon at the end of Ramadhan heralds the celebration of Eid ul-Fitr..

The use of colour for therapy has been used in ancient temples
in all cultures, and are now being re-discovered and put into
practice in many ways - literally putting colour to our daily lives.
Colour therapy means to help with - not to supplant
- present medical work.
When you are "balanced" you can more effectively rid yourself of
toxins and negative patterns that hinder your life processes.
One way to achieve balance is through the vibrational remidy of colour.Colours interact with the human energy system in a unique way to stabilize physical, emotional, mental and spiritual conditions. The different frequencies of light (the colours) effects different energy centres of the body known as chackras. Some colours can affect the higher frequencies of the body as other colours can affect energies in the body of lower frequency. The human body is comprised of many energy fields. These energy fields surround, emanate from and can interact with the physical body and its various functions. All of the organs, tissues, and systems within our body are comprised of similarly vibrating atoms. If something irritating (such as an improper food substance) enters the body, it can result in altering the normal vibrational pattern of the body, or in this case the digestive system.
At these times, the body needs something to help restore it
to its original vibrational pattern. We can use a bibrational remedy to temporarily restore balance to theat problem area.
Vibrational remedies are subtle energy stimuli which interact with the energy system of the human body to help stabilize physical,
emotional, mental and spiritual conditions.By providing the correct focus of energy to the problem area,we can temporarily restore balance to that area.Through vibrational remedies we revive a proper flow of energy. Some of the most effective vibrational remedies are sound colour aromas flower and gem essenses crystals and stones and thoughts.

jess has got it all, the boring but nice parents, the gorgeous boyfriend, an owesome best friend and the lead rolein her school play. then out of nowhere her world takes a nosedive. while the topic of breast cancer is one not to be ignored, the storyline as a whole makes you go "same 'ol, same 'ol". falling under the radar, chris' debut novel is not about to hold any water. you don't have to be the same size to read this book but you do have to put the grandeur of great literature on hold. read only if you're up for some emoty entertainment.

Nowadays, type we can found in market usually are Core 2 duo or quad-core. The number of core stand for the number of brain running in that small tiny chip which can bring greater speed in order to do multi tasking or server room.

In order to fulfill the requirement, The world's leading computer chip maker's new Xeon 7400 series microprocessor is tailored for businesses that want to boost server performance while conserving on space and energy.

This six-core chip delivers 50 percent more performance than its quad-core predecessor while using 10 percent less electric power, according to Intel enterprise group vice president Tom Kilroy.

Seems im not a muscular person. Actually sometime I do read so topic about health.

You may be surprised at how little effort it takes to make a difference to your muscle health. Here's what you can do now

Increase your calcium intake
A calcium-rich diet (including dairy foods) during childhood and adolescence will protect your bones for life. In later years, a good intake will reduce the effects of bone loss.

Try strength-training exercises
These help build strong bones and can be easily done at home using light weights or even your own body weight.

Avoid fizzy drinks
Colas contain phosphoric acid that can take calcium out of the body. Just two cans per day can have an effect.

Take a walk in the park
Walking is a great low-impact exercise. Aim for a moderate brisk...

If I'm free maybe i'll try out those...
hope you found it useful

Fact of Life 1

Turkeys have never been bred to produce eggs for human consumption because it is much less expensive to produce chicken eggs. “Turkeys are bred for meat production, which results in high body weight and low egg production,”says Dr Roger Buckland, professor of poultry science at McGill University in Montreal.

A female turkey weighs between 9.5 and 15 kilograms during the laying period of her life

Do ducks have ears?

According to Dr David Bird, professor of wildlife biology and director of the Avian Science and Conservation Centre of McGill University in Montreal, ducks, like all vertebrates, do indeed have ears, although they don’t look much like the human version.

“As can readily be seen,” Bird says, “the avian ear is missing those fleshy flaps, called pinnae, that stick out on either side of the head. Instead, ducks have smallish holes just behind their eyes that are covered by small, stiff feathers.”

Does a dog's saliva really have the ability to kill bacteria?

Saliva, not only from dogs but also from a number of species, has been shown to promote wound healing.

Saliva is a complex fluid, some of whose components produce anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal effects. These beneficial properties are not unique to dog saliva; they're probably true for most species.

Assalamualaikum..This time, i would like to share an article about "brushing our teeth". I felt quite weird when I first read this article. This is something new because I never heard that if we don't brush our teeth,it could lead to heart disease.I don't even know that there is connection between teeth and heart disease. So,this article is really good information for us to know.
It is really important for us to brush our teeth so that there will be no bacteria multiplying inside our mouth.Scientist had done some research and it is proven that mouth is the dirtiest place in our body,so it is necessary to make sure our mouth is clean after we eat.It stated that, even if we are fit and have a healthy lifestyle, but if we have a bad mouth,we still might get heart disease.
If you have a bleeding gum,the bacteria might get in to the blood and stick to the platelet. Then, the blood stream will get slower and cause disease to the heart.Never thought how serious it is huh?
So,make sure to follow your mum's order when they ask you to brush your teeth before sleeping.
So,make sure you have a clean teeth to prevent heart disease.

Hey there...This is my new comment for today...i've read an article about the bad effects of smoking.

Smoking is bad for human.Smoking is one of the most common forms of recreational drug use. Most drugs that are smoked are considered to be addictive. Some of the substances are classified as hard narcotics, like heroin and crack cocaine.smoking is among the leading causes of diseases such as lung cancer, heart attacks and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The effects of tobacco on health are significant, depending on the way the tobacco is used (smoked, snuffed or chewed) and the amount. Major health effects of smoking, the most common use of tobacco, include an increased risk in lung cancer and cardiovascular diseases.Smoking also increases the risk for various other oral diseases, some almost completely exclusive to smokers. Most smokers say they enjoy smoking, which is part of the reason why many continue to do so even though they are aware of the health risks. Taste, smell, and visual enjoyment are also major contributions to the enjoyment of smoking, in addition to camaraderie with other smokers. Ironically, chronic exposure to tobacco smoke may inhibit one's sense of taste and smell, rendering him or her less able to enjoy these aspects of tobacco smoking. In addition, many smokers report a loss of taste sensation and/or salivary changes. Therefore is bad for us if we are one of the smoker in this world. For those who are now is a smoker,I hope you will stop smoking for entire life!! SAY NO TO SMOKING!!

The article I choose is about chocolate. The article talked about advatages and benefits when we take chocolate. The benefits of chocolates comes from inside of chocolate where from article say chocolates contain compounds called flavonoids that can help maintain a healthy heart and good circulation and reduce blood clotting and from that Carl Keen, a nutritionist at the University of California said "More and more, we are finding evidence that consumption of chocolate that is rich in flavonoids can have positive cardiovascular effects”.

From my knowledge, chocolate make person soul happy. Then, from physicology opinion the soul happy comes from our heart so it is good for our healthy heart. The article also said "results lead us to believe that chocolate may contribute to a healthy, well-balanced diet". I agree with that statement because chocolate has low dose-aspirin.I think this is a good article because the statement give with evindence.

hello...today i want to share a short story..that story was very interesting and meaning for me.
THERE are many people who we often take for granted, and Loordasamy Sinnappan is one of them.Lourdes,as he is fondly called by many, works as a cleaner for the Ipoh City Council.
The unassuming man,who speaks impeccable English, goes about his job cheerfully from 6.45 every morning,a time when most city dweller are just getting up.By the time he is done, there is usually not a leaf in sight at the market where he works!
Lourdes ` day actually starts at 5.50am He stays in Silibin,on the other side of town and it takes him about half an hour to reach his workplace.
He is “in change”of the community market in the sleepy neighbourhood of Canning Garden, and has to care fro 56 individual stalls. He also seed to the toilets, the dumpster and surrounding drains.Occasionally, colleagues help out and there are people assigned to cut the grass.
First-time visitors are often suprised at how clean the market is.I,for one, have always marveled at how clean the dumpster looks every time I go to the market. And the question at the back of my mind was-“Who cleans it so well?”
Curiosity got the better of me and, one day,I got to meet the men responsible for all that.
The first thing Uncle Lourdes said to me when I asked about this job and exporesed admiration for his efficiency was ,”God blessed me with good healthy and good hand,With His grade ,I can work for the people.
And healthy he certainly is.At an age when most people start to worry diabetes or hypertansionthe 52-years- old has no health problem. He revealed that his secret is simple living and drinking lots of water and Chinese tea!
His statement realy scuak me;unlike those who only care about material things and fame ,here was a men who took pride in a job that most people would not even consider doing.
Collecting garbage has always been viewed as lowly work, especially by the younger generation. But we often overlook its important. Many a time ,we look down on garbage collectors, who are a very important part of society.About the only time we realize their important is when they go on strike-quite a common occurrence in some foreign countries.

me again hehehe...the hot new that i want to tell all of you..
JAPAN'S ruling parties have agreed to call a general election for Oct 26, in hopes of benefiting from a bounce in support for a new prime minister, the Asahi newspaper said on Thursday.

The main ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is set to pick a new leader on Monday, after unpopular Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda stepped down this month.

Polls suggest the new leader will be outspoken former foreign minister Taro Aso.

Parliament would likely be dissolved on Oct 3 and the election campaigning start on Oct 14, the paper said, citing sources within the LDP and its junior coalition partner, the New Komeito.

A final decision would be made after the new prime minister was appointed, the Asahi said.

Japan is not required to hold an election for the lower house of parliament until next September but a snap poll has been widely predicted because the LDP hopes to take advantage of a jump in voter support for a new prime minister.

But some in the LDP said the government should delay the election to allow it to pass a supplementary budget with tax cuts and other fiscal measures to ease financial uncertainty after the collapse of US investment bank Lehman Brothers, the paper said.

The new LDP leader will almost certainly become prime minister because of the party's domination of the lower house of parliament, which appoints Japan's premier.

He said Customs officers would mount roadblocks on major roads nationwide and on roads in border areas, during the Raya season.

assalamualaikum.....
i have read out about the advantages of taking honey.Honey , a most assimilable carbohydrate compound, is a singularly acceptable, practical and most effective aliment to generate heat, create and replace energy, and furthermore, to form certain tissues. Honey, besides, supplies the organism with substances for the formation of enzymes and other biological ferments to promote oxidation. It has distinct germicidal properties and in this respect greatly differs from milk which is an exceptionally good breeding-ground for bacteria. Honey is a most valuable food, which today is not sufficiently appreciated. Its frequent if not daily use is vitally important.
The universal and natural craving for sweets of some kind proves best that there is a true need for them in the human system. Children, who expend lots of energy, have a real "passion" for sweets. This is really instinct. Proteins will replace and build tissues but it is the function and assignment of carbohydrates to create and replace heat and energy, and to provide what we call Honey, which contains two invert sugars, levulose and dextrose, has many advantages as a food substance. While cane-sugar and starches, as already intimated, must undergo during digestion a process of inversion which changes them into grape and fruit-sugars, in honey this is already accomplished because it has been predigested by the bees, inverted and concentrated. This saves the stomach additional labor. For a healthy human body, which is capable of digesting sugar, the actuality that honey is an already predigested sugar has less importance, but in a case of weak digestion, especially in those who lack invertase and amylase and depend on monosaccarides, it is a different matter and deserves consideration.
The consummation of this predigestive act is accomplished by the enzymes invertase, amylase and catalase, which are produced by the worker bee in such large quantities that they can be found in every part of their bodies. However, there is plenty of it left in honey for our benefit. The remarkable convertive power of these enzymes can be pif oven by a simple experiment. If we add one or two tablespoonful of raw honey to a pint of concentrated solution of sucrose, the mixture will soon be changed into invert sugar. The addition of boiled honey, in which the enzymes have been destroyed, will not accomplish such a change.
The frequent Biblical references to milk and honey demonstrate the importance of these two oldest aliments. Neither, how-ever, is a complet food nor a proper nutriment alone for a long period of time. They are effective only to supplement deficiencies of other food substances.
Milk has many drawbacks. As mentioned, it is an excellent breeding medium for bacteria. The inhabitants of the East quickly sour the milk of cows, goats, sheep, mares and camels and prepare curds and cheese from it, because in warm climates milk cannot be preserved otherwise. Honey, on the other hand, requires little attention and does not deteriorate even in the tropics. Honey has often been given reference over milk. It is not surprising that Van Helmont gave milk the epithet, "brute's food" and suggested bread, boiled in ber and honey, as a substitute. Liebig also recommended a substitute for milk. Honey has many advantages as a staple article of diet to secure optimum nutrition.

I read some article in wikipedia...it is about black hole. Black hole is a theoritical region of space in which the gravitational field is so powerful that nothing, not even the electromagnatic radiation can escape its pull after having fallen past its event horizon. the term derives from the fact that the absorption of visible light renders thr hole's interior invisible, and indistinguishable from the black space around it.

Despite its interior being invisible, a black hole may reveal its presence through an interaction with matter that lies in orbit outside its event horizon. For example, a black hole may be perceived by tracking the movement of a group of stars that orbit its center. Alternatively, one may observe gas (from a nearby star, for instance) that has been drawn into the black hole. The gas spirals inward, heating up to very high temperatures and emitting large amounts of radiation that can be detected from earthbound and earth-orbiting telescopes. Such observations have resulted in the general scientific consensus that—barring a breakdown in our understanding of nature—black holes do exist in our universe.

The idea of an object with gravity strong enough to prevent light from escaping was proposed in 1783 by the Reverend John Michell, an amateur British astronomer. In 1795, Pierre-Simon Laplace, a French physicist independently came to the same conclusion. Black holes, as currently understood, are described by the general theory of relativity. This theory predicts that when a large enough amount of mass is present in a sufficiently small region of space, all paths through space are warped inwards towards the center of the volume, preventing all matter and radiation within it from escaping.

While general relativity describes a black hole as a region of empty space with a pointlike singularity at the center and an event horizon at the outer edge, the description changes when the effects of quantum mechanics are taken into account. Research on this subject indicates that, rather than holding captured matter forever, black holes may slowly leak a form of thermal energy called Hawking radiation and may well have a finite life. However, the final, correct description of black holes, requiring a theory of quantum gravity, is unknown.

Fasting detoxifies the brain

For most people, a few hours without food cause headaches and discomfort. By the end of the day, the tongue turns yellow, the breath becomes foul, and you can have weakness and dizziness. This reaction is from the body detoxifying. Your blood has been overloaded with the sludge of toxic living. Because the blood is in the process of eliminating putrefying waste, the breath is foul and you feel cruddy.

Hai..I would like to share something with all of u...It is about a keystep towards healthy eating..

Healthy eating begins with learning how to “eat smart”. It's not just what you eat, but how you eat. Paying attention to what you eat and choosing foods that are both nourishing and enjoyable helps support an overall healthy diet.

TAKE TIME TO CHEW YOUR FOOD: Chew your food slowly, savoring every bite. We tend to rush though our meals, forgetting to actually taste the flavors and feel the textures of what is in our mouths. Reconnect with the joy of eating.

AVOID STRESS WHILE EATING: When we are stressed, our digestion can be compromised, causing problems like colitis and heartburn. Avoid eating while working, driving, arguing, or watching TV (especially disturbing programs or the news). Try taking some deep breaths prior to beginning your meal, or light candles and play soothing music to create a relaxing atmosphere.

LISTEN TO YOUR BODY: Ask yourself if you are really hungry, and stop eating when you feel full. It actually takes a few minutes for your brain to tell your body that it has had enough food, so eat slowly. Eating just enough to satisfy your hunger will help you remain alert, relaxed and feeling your best, rather than stuffing yourself into a “food coma”!

EAT EARLY,EAT OFTEN: Starting your day with a healthy breakfast can jumpstart your metabolism, and eating the majority of your daily caloric allotment early in the day gives your body time to work those calories off. Also, eating small, healthy meals throughout the day, rather than the standard three large meals, can help keep your metabolism going and ward off snack attacks.

Assalamualaikum, today as usual I will tell a sport news from The Stars News, it is about Kedah coach Mohd Azraai Khor has attributed his side’s 0-5 losing to Bahrain’s Muharraq FC in the AFC Cup quarter-final, first-leg tie on Tuesday to the absence of foreign imports in his team.

Kedah were forced to play without their three imports player Chilean midfielder Nelson Sam Martin and St Vincent and Grenadine’s Bernard Huggins and Marlon James after the FA of Malaysia’s (FAM) decision to do away with foreign imports for next season.

Azraai, who led Kedah to a sensational back-to-back treble success in the just-concluded Malaysian Super League, said the Canaries would have been able to give 30-time Bahrain league champions Muharraq a tougher fight if he had the three foreigners in their side. Now that Kedah’s challenge is as good as over, Azraai is more concerned with Kedah ability to sustain the challenge at the Asian level next year.Kedah and Negri Sembilan will be Malaysia’s representatives in the AFC Cup tournament next year. But the ban on imports next year means it will be a big struggle for both the teams.

Huhu..Pimples??let's see...What Is Acne and What Causes It?
Acne is a condition of the skin that shows up as different types of bumps. These bumps can be blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, or cysts. Teens get acne because of the hormonal changes that come with puberty. If your parents had acne as teens, it's more likely that you will, too. The good news is that, for most people, acne goes away almost completely by the time they are out of their teens.

The type of acne that a lot of teens get is called acne vulgaris (the meaning of "vulgaris" isn't as bad as it sounds — it means "of the common type"). It usually shows up on the face, neck, shoulders, upper back, and chest.

The hair follicles, or pores, in your skin contain sebaceous glands (also called oil glands). These glands make sebum, which is an oil that lubricates your hair and skin. Most of the time, the sebaceous glands make the right amount of sebum. As a teen's body begins to mature and develop, though, hormones stimulate the sebaceous glands to make more sebum, and the glands may become overactive. Pores become clogged if there is too much sebum and too many dead skin cells. Bacteria (especially one called Propionibacterium acnes) can then get trapped inside the pores and multiply, causing swelling and redness — the start of acne.

If a pore gets clogged up and closes but bulges out from the skin, you're left with a whitehead. If a pore gets clogged up but stays open, the top surface can darken and you're left with a blackhead. Sometimes the wall of the pore opens, allowing sebum, bacteria, and dead skin cells to make their way under the skin — and you're left with a small, red bump called a pimple (sometimes pimples have a pus-filled top from the body's reaction to the bacterial infection). Clogged pores that open up very deep in the skin can cause nodules, which are infected lumps or cysts that are bigger than pimples and can be painful.

There are a few myths out there about things that cause acne. Acne isn't caused by eating greasy foods like french fries or pizza, chomping on chocolate, or drinking sodas. Some people do find that they notice their breakouts get more severe when they eat too much of a certain food, though. If you're one of them, it's worth trying to cut back on that food to see what happens.

Stress doesn't usually cause acne either (although it can make existing acne worse because stress increases sebum production).

There are also myths about what helps make acne better. Acne isn't really helped by the sun. Although a tan can temporarily make acne look less severe, it won't help it go away permanently — and some people find that the oils their skin produces after being in the sun make their pimples worse.

hello.....;-)
read out about your horoscope...i have read it..and i want to share to all of you guys...

Aquarius (jan20-feb18)
You've got a unique style, and it's inspiring quite a few followers, right now! So many, in fact, that you might think you are looking into a mirror at some point today when you run into someone who is either dressed just like you or acting just like you. Take this as flattery -- you shouldn't get annoyed or feel threatened by it. They can't create nearly the type of energy you create when you walk into a room, but won't it be adorable watching them try?

Pisces (feb19-mar20)
It's not a great day for throwing caution to the wind -- there is far too much up in the air right now for you to barrel ahead on a project you're excited about without nailing down all the details. So you'll have to try to curb your enthusiasm right now and cool your jets. But just because you can't run ahead like you want to doesn't mean you can't make progress. Take advantage of this downtime to do some research and create a Plan B just in case your Plan A can't happen.

Aries (mar21-april 19)
Your popularity is on a rapid upswing, and it's no wonder -- you've been such a good friend to so many people, and the word has spread! Your charm will be in high demand by a wide array of people, and you're going to have to get organized if you want to take advantage of all the invitations that will be coming your way. Make sure you get everyone's phone numbers and email addresses. Now that you've made a connection, you need to make sure that you never let it go again.

Taurus(april20- may20)
Someone from your past might pop back into your life today without you realizing it until you're face to face -- but there's no reason not to welcome them with open arms! Be friendly and show them that you don't hold any grudges or expectations (even if you do). No matter how things were left between the two of you, the future is a blank canvas, ready for you two to create whatever picture you want upon it. Think the best of them, and they will think the best of you

Gemini (may21-jun21)
You don't have to choose between feeding your mind and feeding your heart, today -- you can have it both ways! You are getting your ideas generated, and there is a buzz starting among your colleagues. This means that not only are you growing your ego, you are growing your social circle. People will be peppering you with questions. They are eager to connect with you on many levels. You'll be feeling popular and feeling smart -- it's an unbeatable combination that will leave you smiling.

Cancer (jun22-jul22)
If you get snared in an argument with a friend, today, make sure you don't miss the point of the exchange. Keep your emotions in check and stay focused on what you really need to accomplish with this person. Chances are, the issue you are squabbling over is not the real root of your problem -- you need to dig deeper to get to that root. The other person might not be prepared to do this, but you can't get anywhere without their cooperation. Try to convince them to open up.

Leo (jul23-aug22)
Teamwork is going to be a powerful force in your life today, and it's lucky for you that you will be dealing with so many people who share your way of looking at life! You can expect a lot of harmony and very little disagreement, so things will get done a lot more quickly than you had anticipated. Your productivity will be high, and you'll have a smile on your face all day. So what should you do with all of the free time you'll have at the end of the day? Celebrate, naturally!

Virgo (aug23-sept22)
If you need to score some big points with some big and powerful people, today is the day to do it! You've got an unbeatable combination working in your favor -- your cold logic, softened by your warm smile. Any people competing for some time in the limelight don't stand a chance against you, so there is no need to feel threatened by anyone. You can convince just about anyone to follow you anywhere, today. All eyes are on you, and you are not going to disappoint.

Libra (sept23-okt22)
You are in the midst of a strong phase of power, but your compassion is growing, too. This wonderful combination could enable you to make some major changes in the life of someone you love, if you take the time to do so, today. Show them how they can be happier -- point out all the possibilities ahead of them, and convince them that anything is possible. You're just about the only person who can help them listen to logic and end the self-pity party they've been throwing themselves for so long.

Scorpio (okt23-nov21)
You understand that money cannot buy you happiness -- despite the fact that you might get a charge when you find a long forgotten twenty dollar bill in a winter coat pocket. But today, the idea of getting more cash is just too tempting to pass up. A small gamble isn't such a bad idea, as long as you are comfortable with losing your initial bet. But you must avoid any significant gambles that involved contracts. Risks are not bound to pay off now.

Sagittarius (nov22-dec21)
Wake up! It's time for you to realize that you control the outcome of whatever test you take today, so stop looking to others for results. As long as you're prepared and feeling positive, things will go your way. Today, make sure everything you do is focused around the good things that you are trying to accomplish -- not the bad things that you fear. This is a wonderful time of hope in your life, so do your best to tap into the wistful, romantic side of your personality.

Capricorn (dec22-jan19)
A flighty friend is suddenly very serious about upcoming plans that are important to them -- and they're giving you some guilt trips about not getting involved. They aren't realizing that they are asking for more than they have ever been willing to give, so it might be up to you to remind them that they let you down when you were counting on them. It could create an argument between the two of you, but you will make your point. In order to make your friendship better, you have to speak the truth.

i'm sure all of you know that my hometown is Melaka...i want to share the story about melaka...
That s Sumatran prince, named parameswara, was credited with the founding of the city and naming it Melaka in not disputed.
A popular account puts the Prince as out hunting one day and while resting under a tree, one of his dogs cornered a mouse-deer or 'pelandok'.
The mouse-deer in its defence attacked the dog and even forced it into the river-water. Parameswara was so taken up by the courage of the mouse-deer that he decided on the spot to found a city on the ground he was sitting on. Thus, Melaka or Malacca was born. Many claimed that the prince took this name from the 'Melaka' tree that was shading him.
As time went on, Melaka grew bigger and bigger and became more and more prosperous. Parameswara, incidentally, was the first Malay prince to become a Muslim and inevitably, Islam became the religion of Malays in the Peninsular (now West Malaysia).
The prince known as Iskandar Shah died in 1424. During his rule, Melaka progressed into a booming international trading post, luring over Javanese, Indian, Arab and Chinese sea-merchants.
Under Sultan Mansur Shah (1456 - 1477), Melaka's fame and wealth not long after caught the attention of the expansionist Europeans with the Portuguese becoming the first to arrive and eventually going on to conquer the land. They were led by Alfonso d'Albuquerque.
The Portuguese occupiers stayed on far 130 years and their King benefited immensely from this. After the Dutch captured Melaka from the Portuguese in 1641, theycontinued to use Batavia, now Jakarta, as their head quarters.

Assalamualaikum..
This time i would like to share about syawal..not a person, but a month in the islam calendar.
Syawal is the tenth month of the Islamic calendar.
The first day of Syawal is Eid ul-Fitr. On that day, all muslims celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri that also known as Hari Raya Puasa..
Some Muslims observe six days of fasting during Syawal which, together with the Ramadan fasts, are equivalent to fasting "perpetually", according to Sahih Muslim. The reasoning behind this tradition is that a good deed in Islam is rewarded 10 times, hence fasting 30 days during Ramadan and 6 days during Syawal is equivalent to fasting the whole year in terms of reward..
I think it is enough to share with you all. i'll keep sharing here after i've read new articles..=)

A Yak is a synonym term that refers to the Yakuza. The term is used by Japanese young people and foreign persons familiar with Japanese culture. Today, the Yakuza are among the largest crime organizations in the world. In Japan, as of 2005, there are some 86,300 known members. In Japanese legal terminology, yakuza organizations are referred to as bōryokudan, literally "violence groups", which Yakuza members consider an insult as it can be applied to any violent criminal.Yakuza also has made all the Japanese people fear of them.During the formation of the yakuza, they adopted the traditional Japanese hierarchical structure of oyabun-kobun where kobun, foster child) owe their allegiance to the oyabun , foster parent). In a much later period, the code of "jingi" (justice and duty) was developed where loyalty and respect are a way of life.

Sometimes the term solar cell is reserved for devices intended specifically to capture energy from sunlight, while the term photovoltaic cell is used when the source is unspecified.that's all.

Juventus marked their return to the Champions League after a two year absence with a hard-fought 1-0 Group H victory over UEFA Cup holders Zenit St Petersburg here on Wednesday.

There was little to choose between the two sides until veteran Italy forward Alessandro Del Piero's swerving 30-yard freekick deceived goalkeeper Vyacheslav Malafeev.

Zenit had more of the ball but failed to take advantage of their chances although their Dutch coach Dick Advocaat vented his fury at Belgian referee Franck De Bleeckere after the game.

Juve coach Claudio Ranieri showed off his team's attacking strength in depth by restoring Del Piero and David Trezeguet to the starting line up at the expense of Amauri and Vincenzo Iaquinta, who had started at the weekend against Udinese.

However months later more and more players play the game because it was free to play and can link with other players for battle without requiring online but LAN. Then version 5.84 release and that the time the game bought into World Cyber Games, WCG competitions around the world fight for fame and become the strongest. Until now the game still play by players, even forum was create to discuss the strategy. Now the latest version is 6.55b. It was really a great game where there are a lot of hero to choose, various item to combine, unlimited combo skills and most important is the teamwork among each players was the main thing to win the game that is to destroy the enemy ancient tower. What's your favourite fruit ?
Well to me i like apple, not because of the slogan saying that an apple a day, keeps the doctor away. However is because of the natural sweet taste and crunchy bite makes me like enjoying snack instead of eating candy.

Beside apple do really bring a lot of benefit to our health. First apple contain antioxident which can repair our tisu so it looks younger and better. Moreover it also contain fiber and cholesterol free which was a perfect meal for those who want to have a healthy diet. It juice also contain mint which give refreshment after eating which make me like it. Nowadays, research do found that apple also help prevent colon cancer, prostate cancer and lung cancer. So many smokers are recommend by docter to eat apple if they really want to quit smoke. That because they enjoying the same effect of refreshment but apple not only healthy but in the same time heal their lungs.

for your infomation, do you know that actually apple's seed is poisonous but mildly. It effect a lot if we mistakenly ate it but it poison is strong enought to kill a small bird !

assalamualaikum and very good morning...
before this i had read about the causes of car crashed...it happend because of
Distracted Drivers – example: Driver fatigue, Looking at scenery, Other passengers or children, Adjusting the radio, cassette or CD player, Reading the newspaper, books, maps or other documents.
Driver Fatigue - Symptoms of driver fatigue include heavy eyelids, frequent yawning, a drifting vehicle that wanders over road lines, varying vehicle speed for no reason, misjudging traffic situations, seeing things "jump out" in the road, feeling fidgety or irritable and daydreaming. And the tips are: 1.Take a break from driving at least every two hours.2. Get a good night's sleep before a long trip.3.Share the driving whenever possible.4.Avoid long drives after work.5.Avoid drinking before driving.6.Pull over and stop when drowsiness, discomfort or loss of concentration occurs.7.Find out whether any medicine you are taking may affect your driving.
Drunk Driving - The only way to prevent this type of accident is to not drink and drive.
Speeding - obeying posted speed limits.
Aggressive Driving - Aggressive tailgating, Flashing lights at other drivers because you're irritated at them, Aggressive or rude gestures, Deliberately preventing another driver from moving their vehicle, Verbal abuse, Physical assaults, Disregarding traffic signals, Changing lanes frequently or in an unsafe manner, Failure to yield the right of way.the tips are : 1. Remain calm.2. Keep your distance 3.Do not pass unless you have to 4.Change lanes once it is safe 5.If you cannot change lanes and an aggressive driver is behind you, stay where you are, maintain the proper speed and do not respond with hostile gestures 6.If the situation is serious, you may call 911 to report an aggressive driver
Weather. - heavy rain, hail, snowstorms, ice, high winds and fog can make driving more difficult.
i go for research on that because as you all know 'Hari Raya' is coming and i'm sure that u all know during hari raya many accident happend in malaysia involved of car.lorry bus and motorcycle. and i want to share with you all guys the causes of accident happend and try to prevent it from it happend... remember your family..

banana...i like banana but i'm not a monkey....!!!!!!!!!!!
i read an article about the nutritional benefits of banana..you can read as well :
bananas are highly recommended by doctors for patients whose potassium is low. One large banana, about 9 inches in length, packs 602 mg of potassium and only carries 140 calories. That same large banana even has 2 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber. No wonder the banana was considered an important food to boost the health of malnourished children! Those reducing sodium in their diets can't go wrong with a banana with its mere 2 mgs of sodium. For the carbohydrate counters there are 36 grams of carbs in a large banana.
Vitamins and minerals are abundant in the banana, offering 123 I.U. of vitamin A for the large size. A full range of B vitamins are present with .07 mg of Thiamine, .15 mg of Riboflavin, .82 mg Niacin, .88 mg vitamin B6, and 29 mcg of Folic Acid. There are even 13.8 mg of vitamin C. On the mineral scale Calcium counts in at 9.2 mg, Magnesium 44.1 mg, with trace amounts of iron and zinc.
Putting all of the nutritional figures together clearly shows the banana is among the healthiest of fruits. The plantain, when cooked, rates slightly higher on the nutritional scale in vitamins and minerals but similar to the banana in protein and fiber content.

The mix of cultural influences in Malaysia is the result of centuries of immigration and trade with the outside world, particularly with Arab nations, China, and India. Early groups of incoming foreigners brought wealth from around the world, plus their own unique cultural heritages and religions. Further, once imported, each culture remained largely intact; that is, none have truly been homogenized. Traditional temples and churches exist side by side with mosques.

Likewise, traditional art forms of various cultures are still practiced in Malaysia, most notably in the areas of dance and performance art. Chinese opera, Indian dance, and Malay martial arts are all very popular cultural activities. Silat, originating from a martial arts form (and still practiced as such by many), is a dance performed by men and women. Religious and cultural festivals are open for everyone to appreciate and enjoy. Unique arts and traditions of indigenous people distinguish Sabah and Sarawak from the rest of the country.

Traditional Malaysian music is very similar to Indonesian music. Heavy on rhythms, its constant drum beats underneath the light repetitive melodies of the stringed gamelan (no relation at all to the Indonesian metallophone gamelan, with its gongs and xylophones) will entrance you with its simple beauty.

Bergendang (Drumming)
In the traditional musical performances of the Malay community in Sarawak, it is the womenfolk who play the gendang or drums. Seated behind a screen, they drum out their beats in rhythm to songs sung by young maidens and dances performed by men.

Wayang Kulit (Shadow Play)
Wayang Kulit is a traditional theater art-form using puppets and shadow-play to tell the epic tales of the Ramayana. The puppets are made of buffalo hide and mounted on bamboo sticks. There may be as many as 45 puppets - handled entirely by a single master puppeteer, known as the Tok Dalang.

Maggagong (Gong Ensembles)
Brass or bronze gong ensembles form an inherent part of Sabah’s ethnic music. The melody varies from district to district. The Kadazan Dusun group include six songs and a drum called the sopogogungan (Penampang) in their musical composition while the Bajau from Kota Belud add kulintangan, a set of kettle-bedded gongs.

Bunga Malai (Garland Making)
Flowers form an integral part of the cultural heritage of Malaysian Indians for religious occasions, weddings, moving house, or welcoming an important guest. Flowers, holy basil, and the leaves of the margosa or mango tree are strung together to form a malai or garland. They are done in different styles to suit each particular occasion.

Sumpit (Blow Pipe)
The tribal people of Sarawak are known for their magnificent hunting skills. They are aided by the sumpit, a six-foot long wooden blowpipe with a poisoned or a barbed tip. One quick puff sends the dart (sometimes twenty-yards away) to the victim, usually a wild pig, deer, or bird.

Silat (The Malay Art of Self defense)
Silat, the Malay art of self-defense combines a series of supple movements, which enables a person to defend himself under provocation. The aim of silat is to instill confidence in oneself in the face of adversity. Occasionally, a keris (small dagger) may be used

hye guys..today i would like to share the new story that i was read.i was read about pro photography tricks.firstly, spectacular light:take photograph 15 minutes after sunrise and 15 minutes before sunset.it produces a magical look with gorgeous golden light and beautiful shadows. But don't just photograph the sunset light for dramatic effect.

Secondly, the tips is avoid direct sunlight on the subject:try not to take a photo with the sunlight coming over your shoulder as this makes the subject look flat and boring.Snap a photo with the light hitting yor subject from the side,it will emphasise the subject better and add texture to the photo.

lastly, lose or use of the background:people moving behind the subject will cause the subject to be lose in it. so blur the background to make the subject stand out by setting your camera to smaller aperture.but if the background has attractive pattern, reflections or contrast of light and dark,it can work to your favour for eye-catching photos.

hai.... i want too share with you something..i'm sure that all of yu know that soya is very good for our health but on my reading i found out that soya have good and bad... the good thing is soya has actually been shown to contain nutrients that have a positive effect on both cholesterol and the potential cancer creating toxins in our bodies.Soya is also an excellent source of protein and many essential vitamins and minerals.the bad is The majority of soya's bad press comes from its links to thyroid problems and hormone imbalance. Soya can slow down your thyroid, causing the entire body to function at an inadequate rate, but this only happens if you consume huge quantities. As long as you eat soya as part of a balanced diet there is no risk. In terms of hormones, yes soya can have a significant effect but it's very much a positive one. Studies have shown that soya's active ingredients can help correct hormones that have moved out of balance. Indeed, there has not been a single reported case of soya having an adverse affect on a woman's hormones.

"What's the right weight for my height?" is one of the most common questions girls and guys have. It seems like a simple question. But, for teens, it's not always an easy one to answer. Why not? People have different body types, so there's no single number that's the right weight for everyone. Even among people who are the same height and age, some are more muscular or more developed than others. That's because not all teens have the same body type or develop at the same time.

hello..
How Can I Be Sure I'm Not Overweight or Underweight?
If you think you've gained too much weight or are too skinny, a doctor should help you decide whether it's normal for you or whether you really have a weight problem. Your doctor has measured your height and weight over time and knows whether you're growing normally.

If concerned about your height, weight, or BMI, your doctor may ask questions about your health, physical activity, and eating habits. Your doctor may also ask about your family background to find out if you've inherited traits that might make you taller, shorter, or a late bloomer (someone who develops later than other people the same age). The doctor can then put all this information together to decide whether you might have a weight or growth problem.

If your doctor thinks your weight isn't in a healthy range, you will probably get specific dietary and exercise recommendations based on your individual needs. Following a doctor's or dietitian's plan that's designed especially for you will work way better than following fad diets. For teens, fad diets or starvation plans can actually slow down growth and sexual development, and the weight loss usually doesn't last.

hello..
hey girls...
want to know how to attract a virgo man???..heheh..
How to influence him: He is a problem solver and gets things taken care of once he's had time to think it out. Give him the details and the time and he'll take care of it. He may appear cold and immune to your emotions or tears, but inside he's genuinely concerned and trying to analyze what your problem is so he can help you. he cares but he shows it differently than most people. He may set a standard for how he expects you to behave, find out what it is and stick to the format. He may provoke an argument to test you if he feels you don't care, let him know what your feelings are. He likes playing the role of "dad" so let him know that you are counting on him and he'll come through for you. He has a deep sense of fairness, so appeal to that when you want to win a point with him.

A few don'ts: Don't cross him or he'll pout and be out of touch until he cools down. Don't barge in or force a discussion when you see that he is thinking, give him time to break away from his thoughts.

He goes best with: Taurus, Cancer, Capricorn, Pisces, Virgo
He clashes with: Scorpio, Aquarius, Leo, Aries
Neutral: Gemini, Libra, Sagittarius

so,girls..what are you waiting for??let's study more about him and practice it..hee~

did u want to know why some of women get migraines before their period?

According to American academy of neurology, nearly one in five adult women get migraines just before their periods.A research was carried out and the result were that migraines do have an oestrogen connection.part of your period cycle involves oestrogen levels to consistently rise followed by a quick dip as progesterone levels go up.it's during this "oestrogen withdrawal"that they are most susceptible to a menstrual migraine..

If you've had one or two bad nights lately, you can probably solve the problem by taking some of the measures below. These strategies may require you to change your sleeping habits, but the effort is well worth it in the long run.

-make your bedroom a heaven for sleep
-became a creature of habit
-reserve your bed just for sleeping
-tame your tummy
-watch the caffeine
-tap the exercise answer
-soak it up
-drift off naturally

13 Things Your Pharmacist Won't Tell You

1. Don't try to get anything past us. Prescriptions for painkillers or sleeping aids always get extra scrutiny.

2. We're not serving fries in here. I'd think twice about using a drive-through pharmacy. Working there distracts us-not a good thing when it comes to pharmaceuticals.

3. We're human … and we make mistakes (about two million a year). Ask if we use a bar-code system to help keep us from pulling the wrong drug off the shelf or giving the wrong strength of the right drug.

4. Sometimes we can't read the doctor's handwriting either. E-prescribing can help, but as of 2006, fewer than 20 percent of prescriptions were being electronically transmitted.

5. I hate your insurance company as much as you do. "Even if something's working for you, the insurance company may insist you switch to something else," says pharmacy owner Stuart Feldman."I'm stuck in the middle trying to explain this to customers."

6. We can give flu shots in most states.

7. A less-qualified pharmacy technician may have actually filled your prescription. Currently, there is no national standard for their training and responsibilities.

8. Generics are a close match for most brand names. But I'd be careful with blood thinners and thyroid drugs, since small differences can have big effects.

9. I can give you a generic refill that's different from the one you started with. When in doubt, ask. Online resources like cvs.com let you double-check your pill.

10. We're not mind readers, and there's not some big computer database that tracks your drugs and flags interactions for pharmacists everywhere. Use one pharmacy. If you start using a new one, make sure we know what you're taking.

11. Avoid the lines. It gets busy Monday and Tuesday evenings, since many new prescriptions and refills come in after the weekend.

12. Look into the $4 generics offered by chains like Target, Kroger, and Wal-Mart. And it can't hurt to ask your pharmacy if it will match the price.

13. Yelling at me won't help. If I can't reach your doctor and/or insurance company to approve a refill, there's nothing I can do about it. “It's frustrating,” says pharmacist Daniel Zlott, “but I'd be breaking the law in some states if I gave it to you.”

10 Ways to Manage Stress
Stress is a normal part of life and usually comes from everyday occurrences. Here are some ways you can deal with everyday sources of stress.

1. Eliminate as many sources of stress as you can. For example, if crowds bother you, go to the supermarket when you know the lines won't be too long. Try renting videotapes rather than going to crowded movie theaters. Clear up the clutter in your life by giving away or throwing away the things that get in your way. A garage sale is one effective way to do this.

2. If you are always running late, sit down with a pencil and paper and see how you are actually allotting your time. Say it takes you 40 minutes to get to work. Are you leaving your house on time? You may be able to solve your problem (and de-stress your life a bit) just by being realistic. If you can't find the time for all the activities that are important to you, maybe you are trying to do too much. Again, make a list of what you do during the day and how much each activity takes. Then cut back.

3. Avoid predictably stressful situations. If a certain sport or game makes you tense (whether it's tennis or bridge), decline the invitation to play. After all, the point of these activities is to have a good time. If you know you won't, there's no reason to play.

4. If you can't remove the stress, remove yourself. Slip away once in a while for some private time. These quiet moments may give you a fresh perspective on your problems. Avoid stressful people. For example, if you don't get along with your father-in-law but you don't want to make an issue of it, invite other in-laws at the same time you invite him. Having other people around will absorb some of the pressure you would normally feel.

5. Competing with others, whether in accomplishments, appearance, or possessions, is an avoidable source of stress. You might know people who do all they can to provoke envy in others. While it may seem easy to say you should be satisfied with what you have, it's the truth. Stress from this kind of jealousy is self-inflicted.

6. Laborsaving devices, such as cellular phones or computer hookups, often encourage us to cram too many activities into each day. Before you buy new equipment, be sure that it will really improve your life. Be aware that taking care of equipment and getting it repaired can be stressful.

7. Try doing only one thing at a time. For example, when you're riding your exercise bike, you don't have to listen to the radio or watch television.

8. Remember, sometimes it's okay to do nothing.

9. If you suffer from insomnia, headaches, recurring colds, or stomach upsets, consider whether stress is part of the problem. Being chronically angry, frustrated, or apprehensive can deplete your physical resources.

10. If you feel stress (or anything else) is getting the better of you, seek professional help -- a doctor or therapist. Early signs of excess stress are loss of a sense of well-being and reluctance to get up in the morning to face another day.

Top 10 Nutrition and Fitness Tips

Discovery Health Channel National Body Challenge medical advisor Dr. Pamela Peeke shares her top 10 tips.
1. Get real and be specific. Write down three or four realistic goals that you can stick to. For example, "I will try to lose one pound of body fat every week. I will walk for 30 minutes minimum five days a week." Avoid fantasy-land goals that will only frustrate you.
2. Get prepared. Throw away all the junk, the processed, and the "bingeable" foods now and replace them with fresh, whole foods like lots of water and veggies. Buy a new pair of walking shoes and find some clothes in your closet you feel comfortable to walk in. During a lifestyle change, if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail!

3. Get support. Whether it's your best friend, spouse, or pet, it helps to have some nonjudgmental and nurturing support when trying to lose weight, especially during trying times.

4. Make daily notes. Research has shown that keeping track of your daily exercise and food intake in a journal or notebook will increase the likelihood of success. Keep it simple, or if you're inspired, write a novel! The key is to hold yourself accountable.

5. Create a food-free reward system. How about a new workout outfit, pair of jeans, shoes -- or what the heck, even a spa treatment, shopping spree, or weekend getaway? You deserve this kind of treatment when you reach your goals.

6. Buy a pedometer. A pedometer keeps track of how many steps you take daily. Wear it every day, around home, work, and while exercising. Your National Body Challenge goal is to increase your steps by 10,000 or more daily! Remember this: You'll burn roughly 100 to 125 calories by taking 2,500 steps (about one mile). The goal during the challenge is to burn 300 extra calories and to eat roughly 200 calories less in a day. This 500-calorie deficit is equivalent to one pound of body fat per week and a healthy boost to your self-esteem.

7. Don't skip breakfast. Research shows that the most successful "losers" never skip it. Try to keep it balanced with some protein, a healthy carb, and a small amount of fat. Here are some examples: an egg-white omelet with fresh berries and a piece of whole-wheat toast, or a skim milk shake with fruit and yogurt.

8. Nix the late-night eating. If you eat a lot of excess calories after 8 p.m., you wear them the next morning. Put a stop to this by making sure you have a healthy dinner consisting of lean protein, veggies, and fruit.

9. Eliminate processed sugars. Processed sugars are carbs that have been stripped of their valuable nutrients. How can you identify these sugars? They are all white: table sugar, pasta, rice, and bread, and they're nothing but trouble, since they kick up your appetite for more of the same.

10. Have a mid-afternoon snack. This will curb your appetite and provide fuel for your after-work walk or workout at the gym. Some great snack ideas include: reduced-fat peanut butter on a multi-grain cracker, a couple of pieces of low-fat string cheese and an apple, cottage cheese with pineapple, or try a low-fat cheese microwaved in a whole-wheat pita.

5 Things Your Waiter Won't Tell You

1. Avoid eating out on holidays and Saturday nights. The sheer volume of customers guarantees that most kitchens will be pushed beyond their ability to produce a high-quality dish.

2. There are almost never any sick days in the restaurant business. A busboy with a kid to support isn't going to stay home and miss out on $100 because he's got strep throat. And these are the people handling your food.

3. When customers' dissatisfaction devolves into personal attacks, adulterating food or drink is a convenient way for servers to exact covert vengeance. Waiters can and do spit in people's food.

4. Never say "I'm friends with the owner." Restaurant owners don't have friends. This marks you as a clueless poseur the moment you walk in the door.

5. Treat others as you want to be treated. (Yes, people need to be reminded of this.)

i want to share all of you about asthma... because i have an asthma...

Asthma (Az-muh) is a chronic disease that affects airways. The airways are the tubes that carry air in and out of lungs. If have asthma, the inside walls of airways are inflamed (swollen). The inflammation (IN-fla-MAY-shun) makes the airways very sensitive, and they tend to react strongly to things that allergic to or find irritating. When the airways react, they get narrower, and less air flows through to lung tissue. This causes symptoms like wheezing (a whistling sound when breathe), coughing, chest tightness, an
d trouble breathing, especially at night and in the early morning.
Asthma cannot be cured, but most people with asthma can control it so that they have few and infrequent symptoms and can live active lives. When asthma symptoms become worse than usual, it is called an asthma episode or attack. During an asthma attack, muscles around the airways tighten up, making the airways narrower so less air flows through. Inflammation increases, and the airways become more swollen and even narrower. Cells in the airways may also make more mucus than usual. This extra mucus also narrows the airways. These changes make it harder to breathe.

The 11 Best Foods You Aren’t Eating

this are the several lists of healthful foods people should be eating but aren’t. Here's advice from Dr. Bowden, author of “The 150 Healthiest Foods On Earth".

1. Beets: Think of beets as red spinach, Dr. Bowden said, because they are a rich source of folate as well as natural red pigments that may be cancer fighters.
How to eat: Fresh, raw and grated to make a salad. Heating decreases the antioxidant power.
2. Cabbage: Loaded with nutrients like sulforaphane, a chemical said to boost cancer-fighting enzymes.
How to eat: Asian-style slaw or as a crunchy topping on burgers and sandwiches.
3. Swiss chard: A leafy green vegetable packed with carotenoids that protect aging eyes.
How to eat it: Chop and saute in olive oil.
4. Cinnamon: May help control blood sugar and cholesterol.
How to eat it: Sprinkle on coffee or oatmeal.
5. Pomegranate juice: Appears to lower blood pressure and loaded with antioxidants.
How to eat: Just drink it.
6. Dried plums: Okay, so they are really prunes, but they are packed with antioxidants.
How to eat: Wrapped in prosciutto and baked.
7. Pumpkin seeds: The most nutritious part of the pumpkin and packed with magnesium; high levels of the mineral are associated with lower risk for early death.
How to eat: Roasted as a snack, or sprinkled on salad.
8. Sardines: Dr. Bowden calls them “health food in a can.” They are high in omega-3’s, contain virtually no mercury and are loaded with calcium. They also contain iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper and manganese as well as a full complement of B vitamins.
How to eat: Choose sardines packed in olive or sardine oil. Eat plain, mixed with salad, on toast, or mashed with dijon mustard and onions as a spread.
9. Turmeric: The “superstar of spices,” it may have anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.
How to eat: Mix with scrambled eggs or in any vegetable dish.
10. Frozen blueberries: Even though freezing can degrade some of the nutrients in fruits and vegetables, frozen blueberries are available year-round and don’t spoil; associated with better memory in animal studies.
How to eat: Blended with yogurt or chocolate soy milk and sprinkled with crushed almonds.
11. Canned pumpkin: A low-calorie vegetable that is high in fiber and immune-stimulating vitamin A; fills you up on very few calories.
How to eat: Mix with a little butter, cinnamon and nutmeg.

hello...
i want to share some information about sea cucumber(gamat)...
Sea cucumbers are echinoderms—like starfish and sea urchins. There are some 1,250 known species, and many of these animals are indeed shaped like soft-bodied cucumbers. All sea cucumbers are ocean dwellers, though some inhabit the shallows and others live in the deep ocean. They live on or near the ocean floor—sometimes partially buried beneath it.
Sea cucumbers feed on tiny particles like algae, minute aquatic animals, or waste materials, which they gather in with 8 to 30 tube feet that look like tentacles surrounding their mouths. The animals break down these particles into even smaller pieces, which become fodder for bacteria, and thus recycle them back into the ocean ecosystem. Earthworms perform a similar function in terrestrial ecosystems.
Sea cucumbers, particularly eggs and young larvae, are prey for fish and other marine animals. They are also enjoyed by humans, especially in Asia, and some species are farmed as delicacies.

When threatened, some sea cucumbers discharge sticky threads to ensnare their enemies. Others can mutilate their own bodies as a defense mechanism. They violently contract their muscles and jettison some of their internal organs out of their anus. The missing body parts are quickly regenerated.
Sea cucumbers can breed sexually or asexually. Sexual reproduction is more typical, but the process is not very intimate. The animals release both eggs and sperm into the water and fertilization occurs when they meet. There must be many individuals in a sea cucumber population for this reproductive method to be successful. Indeed, many parts of the deep ocean host large herds of these ancient animals, grazing on the microscopic bounty of marine waters.the benefits of sea cucumber are sea cucumber improves the balance of prostaglandins and also contain chondroitins.sea cucumbers provide vitamins A, B1(thiamine), B2(riboflavin) and B3(niacin), and C as well as the minerals calcium, iron, magnesium and zinc.

Learn How to Control the Calorie Crunch

-Keep food off the table. If you portion out servings on plates at the stove or kitchen counter and don't set food out on serving platters, you'll be less tempted to take more once your plate is empty.

-Don't eat from packages. It's all too easy to lose track of how much food you've gobbled if you're nibbling straight from the box. Instead, portion out crackers, pretzels, and other snacks on a plate to give yourself a visible sense of what you're consuming.

-Downsize your dishes. Smaller plates and bowls make portions appear larger.

-Take it slow. It takes about 20 minutes for the brain's appetite-control center to register that there's food in the stomach. To wait it out, put down your fork between each bite and take small sips from your drink.

-Work for your food. Eating foods that require some effort -- peeling an orange, cracking open crabs, or cutting open a baked potato, for example -- slows you down even more, giving food a chance to make you feel full.

-Socialize outside the kitchen. People seem to congregate in the kitchen, but you'll be less tempted to nosh if you move the action to the living room.

Today i want to indroduce the type of bird to all of you ,that is Pelican. The American white pelican, Pelecanus erythrorynchos, is the more common of the two, and it can be found throughout a large portion of both the coastal and inland areas of the United States.

It is a large white bird, weighing up to twenty pounds. It also has an orange bill and black feathers on the bottom of the wings. The wing span can reach ten feet.

The Brown pelican is primarily a coastal bird, generally smaller than the American white pelican. There are a couple of different sub-species in the United States.

The Eastern Brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis carolinensis) is the most common subspecies found in the East and Gulf coast regions. The California Brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis californicus) is the West Coast version. Both subspecies are characterized by their brown color, with adults having a white face.

White and brown pelican species share many traits in common. Both are known for their long bills and pouches. In fact, the typical pelican bill is about eighteen inches long, making it the largest in the bird world. Both pelican species are almost exclusively fish eaters, and they use their beak and pouch as their primary fishing tool.

While both species are fishing birds, one very interesting difference between them is their fishing habits. White pelicans are known to fish in small groups, swimming along the shallow edges of the lakes and marshes they inhabit. Typically they swim together in order to herd fish into shallow water areas, making it relatively easy to scoop them into their pouches. Brown pelicans are the aerial acrobats of the family. No one who has watched them diving head first into the water to catch fish will soon forget the sight.

Both species are also known as colony nesters. They are very social birds that build ground nests on isolated islands away from human and other predators. Depending on which nesting sites you visit, pelican populations can range between a couple of dozen to a couple of thousand pairs. Brown pelicans are the salt water birds, and their nests are found on islands and cliffs along the coast. American White pelicans are the fresh water breeders of the family. They breed in inland lakes around the Midwest and Western United States, with some breeding sites registered as far north as Canada.

The Brown pelican was on the verge of extinction in the 1960s. Like many larger birds, the pelicans consumed fish contaminated by the pesticide DDT. As the chemicals in the DDT accumulated in breeding pelicans, it caused them to lay eggs with thin shells, making it almost impossible for the eggs to properly incubate young chicks. The brown pelican was listed as an endangered species in 1970. With some hard work, the eastern populations recovered, and by 1985, brown pelicans on the Atlantic coast, Florida and Alabama were removed from the list. In May 2006, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service began a twelve month review process to determine if the California brown pelican should also be removed from the list.

The Wood Thrush is a Neotropical migrant common to forest areas along the Appalachian Mountain chain from New England to Georgia. Past research on Wood Thrush population declines have focused primarily on single issue causes, with habitat fragmentation and acid rain receiving a good deal of attention.

The logic of the relationship between habitat fragmentation on bird populations is relatively straight forward. FDecline in forested areas, due to road building or other development projects, decreases potential Wood Thrush breeding grounds, and population decline follows.

Acid rain is the general term given to the wet and dry deposition of acidic materials, such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur dioxide (SO2), emitted into the air by the burning of fossil fuels such as coal and gas. When the acidic materials fall to the ground, they alter soil pH, increasing its acidity. Research on Wood Thrush population starts with the hypothesis that changes in soil composition brought about by acid rain alters insect populations. Breeding Wood Thrush, dependent on a diet of calcium rich insects to produce healthy eggs, are hypothesized as the secondary victims in this ecological chain of events.
One problem with the single cause studies is their lack of ability to differentiate between the relative strength of the factors under consideration. For example, it is possible that the results from previous research examining the relationship between acid rain and Wood Thrush populations were influenced by habitat fragmentation factors not accounted for in the research methodology.

The Cornell researchers took this issue into account for their study. Their methodology consisted of choosing four different locations in New York state that shared many similar habitat characteristics. By doing so, they could use habitat as a natural control variable to highlight the effect of acid rain as a factor in Wood Thrush populations. First and foremost, all four areas were large tracks of forest areas with a wide variety of soil types.

Under this controlled environment, the researchers still found a significant relationship between soil pH level, the presence of calcium rich insects, and breeding Wood Thrush populations. They suggest that their methodology serves as a useful starting point for conducting a series of similar research projects across a broader geographical area.

For those who are now is a smoker,I hope he or she will stop smoking for entire life.

Tobacco is a plant grown for its leaves, which are smoked, chewed, or sniffed for a variety of effects. It is considered an addictive substance because it contains the chemical nicotine. In addition to nicotine, tobacco contains over 19 known cancer-causing chemicals (most are collectively known as "tar") and more than 4,000 other chemicals. These include acetone, ammonia, carbon monoxide, cyanide, methane, propane, and butane.Nicotine acts as both a stimulant and depressant on your body. It increases your bowel activity, saliva, and bronchial secretions. It stimulates the nervous system and may cause tremors in the inexperienced user, or even convulsions with high doses. On average, tobacco increases your heart rate 10 to 20 beats per minute, and it increases your blood pressure reading by 5 to 10 mmHg (because it constricts the blood vessels).Nicotine may also cause sweating, nausea, and diarrhea. Nicotine elevates the blood level of glucose (blood sugar) and increases insulin production. Nicotine also tends to enhance platelet aggregation, which may lead to blood clots. Finally, tobacco is highly addictive. It is considered mood and behavior altering. Tobacco is believed to have an addictive potential comparable to alcohol, cocaine, and morphine.

today i have read about safety concerns.during on hari raya we should concern about the safety among of the children.

We must teach them to get rid of danger, ensure them has protective gear

Be a good role model because children observe how their parents are reckless.

Teach them how to treat animals,two-year-old boy i knewwas bitten by the family dog because he was constantly pulling its tailand kicking it.

chicken is a bird likely and one of the most common and domestic animals. We keep chickens primarily as a source of food, with both their meat and their eggs consumed. Adult male chickens are known as roosters. Its omnivors and they often scratch at the soil to search for seeds, insects and even larger animals such as lizards or young mice. They are gregarious birds and live together as a flock. When a rooster finds food he may call the other chickens to eat it first. He does this by clucking in a high pitch as well as picking up and dropping the food.

SHOPAHOLIC & BABY by SOPHIE KINSELLA...

Shopaholic goddess Becky Bloomwood Brandon is dying to know the gender of her unborn "bump," conceived on her honeymoon. The suspense doesn't stop her from shopping 'til she drops for everything from designer prams to a Circus Tent Changing Station and 400-thread-count linen sheets for the baby. Her biggest purchase by far is a new dream house in a posh London suburb, complete with a customized shoe cupboard for herself, his and hers nurseries and a built-in electric sushi maker. Becky negotiates with her Archie Swann cowboy boots in calfskin with the leather drawstring to seal the deal. The defining factor: the boots were featured in Vogue under "Most Coveted." What man wouldn't make that kind of deal? Becky's rationality for outrageous purchases is laugh-out-loud funny and endears you to indulge a first-time mother.

Sophie Kinsella, the New York Times bestselling author of the Shopaholic series, has written a designer pregnancy manual for a new generation of moms-to-be. Those who have had children will be jealous of Becky's designer wardrobe, as well as hospitals with double beds and wine lists. Only our pampered shopaholic would think to hire an aromatherapist, a reflexologist and a homeopath for the birth of her baby. Best of all, Becky would "make it OK for pregnant women to have cocktails. In fact, I'd make it healthy to have cocktails. And your arms wouldn't swell up. And there wouldn't be any morning sickness. And labor wouldn't exist..." This is why fantasy is so appealing....

Becky's pregnancy sails along smoothly due to her new mantra: "shopping cures morning sickness." Her cravings appropriately include "a pineapple and pink cardigan." Best friend Suze is always there to shop with her and offer these encouraging words: "...you'll be the best dressed one (mom) in the playground." Becky's mother tells it like it is: "They have better drugs these days. My advice is take everything they've got." Suze and Becky realize together that you can have the same lust in your eyes for a new pushchair as for a new dress. Pregnancy is really just another excuse to shop for a new wardrobe and baby clothes and nursery items.

Becky's fantasy pregnancy continues as she is the featured mommy-to-be in a Vogue photo shoot --- in an Oscar de la Renta maternity dress. Every woman should experience the luxury of having a makeup artist and a hairdresser transform you into a goddess during the eighth month of pregnancy. There's nothing like a team of experts to enhance that so-called "glow" that accompanies it.

The most unnerving event of Becky's pregnancy is the fact that her celebrity must-have obstetrician, Venetia Carter, turns out to be the ex-girlfriend of her handsome, "squillionaire" rich PR husband. Suddenly, celebrity tea parties and water birth with lotus flowers pale as Becky realizes that Venetia is making a play for him. Like most men, Luke doesn't see through the lies that the jealous Venetia has told to Becky until it is nearly too late. Venetia is no match for Becky's hormones and love for her husband.

"Some things are best left a blur. Births and Visa bills." No truer statement has ever been written. Becky makes pregnancy a shopping experience like no other. For a woman who doesn't know any nursery rhymes or how to change a nappy, she sure figures out quickly that the best use for a stroller is carrying mountains of purchases instead of a baby.

You will laugh and cry with Becky and Luke as they prepare for the new arrival. Their visit to Pram City is a warm repartee between a loving couple expecting their first child. Ugly surgical stockings to prevent varicose veins are not fashionable and reduce Becky to tears. Becky is a visionary when it comes to finances. Her selections are unique and her desire for a designer future for her unborn baby are the bulk of her portfolio. Baby number one is a willing shopaholic devotee. Prams have one key benefit --- they allow shopaholics to maintain their habit after the baby arrives. Shopaholics have more fun!

RANDOM HEARTS by WARREN ADLER...

It's often said that someone outside a marriage can never understand what goes on inside it. The relationship is defined by a million tiny nuances, habits and gestures that shape it. Whether a marriage works, or does not, cannot be explored by someone outside the relationship who is not privy to these moments between the couple.

RANDOM HEARTS is the story of Vivien and Edward, two people who are thrust inside each other's lives --- and marriages --- because of their unfaithful spouses. They explore their marriages as a way to discover why their spouses cheated on them --- and when and how. Exploring the intimacy of these relationships has them looking at painful topics as they look not only at themselves, but also at what their marriages actually were beyond what they appeared to be. As they dig deeper into the stories, they also find themselves attracted to one another and the relationship between them grows.

It is also the story of Lily and Orson, their spouses --- the other random hearts that came together and unraveled the marriages.

The book opens with Lily and Orson dashing out of town for a four-day weekend together. They are at a juncture in the affair where decisions need to be made and they are looking forward to exploring them together. Disaster strikes as their plane crashes and their secrets are unraveled by a police detective. This same detective caught his wife in a dalliance with his best friend the year before and becomes preoccupied with the case. Readers see his need to understand his own story through Vivien and Edward. He delivers the news of their spouses' deaths with compassion, but also seems to be exploring their reactions to try to come to terms with his.

Vivien and Edward look for the fractures in what they felt were solid relationships often painfully seeing their own failures, as well as those of their spouses. They ask each other probing questions that dig deep, but together they put together the story of what happened. The book is its strongest when it explores the inner marriages. We see how often Vivien and Edward were unhappy with elements of their partnerships, but never rocked the boat or carried a big opinion. Their roles seemingly worked within the framework of their relationship, but they now have learned to question who they were and how they impacted the marriages.

The Sony movie Random Hearts is based on this book. Reading the book I kept visualizing Harrison Ford and Kristin Scott Thomas as Edward and Vivien. It had me juggling the story in a different way.

One mistake I did note --- the flap copy refers to Vivien having a daughter when in fact she has a son. I think the one failure of the story is the way she walks away from her child as a symbol of something that is Orson's. I am not sure any mother as devoted to her child as Vivien would do that. But then again, the jolt and the jar of realizing that your entire world is not what it seems may also skew this part of the story to evolve like this.

GOB'S GRIEF by CHRIS ADRIAN...

It is a story of one man's tireless effort to erase the sting of death with his invention, a time machine. Dr. Gob Woodhull's machine would transcend time and bring to life thousands of Civil War dead, including his deceased twin brother, Tomo.

Tomo had sought escape from a strange and politically embattled family --- their surgeon father and suffragette mother kept the family's lifestyle tumultuous. Gob grieves a lingering anguished grief. Regret, unfulfilled adoration for Tomo's memory, and misdirected energy lead him to his invention. At a young age, Gob apprentices himself to a spirit creature, the Urfeist, to learn how to bring back the dead. The machine, an ominous mechanical construction housed in a glass enclosure on the top floor of Gob's large house, becomes his obsession.

The author introduces additional characters that interact with Gob to help fulfill the dream. The common denominator they share is the loss of a brother or dear friend in the Civil War.

Walt Whitman (yes, the author of LEAVES OF GRASS) ministers to dying soldiers as a hospital volunteer. He becomes the devoted champion of Hank Smith, a young man whose leg is amputated as a result of his wounds. Whitman is devastated when the patient dies and so becomes a partner in Gob's time machine project. Gob's aunt, Tennie Claflin, is a freethinking woman and righteous supporter of her sister, Victoria Woodhull (yes, the radical feminist). Whitman becomes infatuated with Tennie, leading to further involvement with Gob's family.

Doctor Will Fie is yet another player in the drama that unfolds. He, too, has lost a brother to the War. Gob befriends him and enlarges his circle of assistants. Dr. Fie is unprincipled, harvesting body parts from the morgue where he works. His willing compliance makes him a morbid and unlikable character.

When a progressive young lady becomes an assistant to Victoria Woodhull in her political wanderings, writing political news for her mentor, Gob finds her irresistible. She has lost a brother in battle, giving Gob yet another reason to court Miss Maci Trufalt. She supports his creative efforts, but when the final moment of reckoning with the machine comes, her reaction is curious.

Adrian's literary style is compelling and his words are well crafted. One may question his reconstruction of actual persons' lives and actions. Mrs. Woodhull's words are true to her actual speeches, and Whitman's poetic quotes are real; but the license taken with their thoughts and feelings makes this reader a bit uneasy with their parts in the story line.

GARDEN SPELLS by SARAH ADDISON ALLEN...

In Bascom, North Carolina, a pleasant Southern town with secrets it likes to keep, local caterer Claire Waverley has led a peaceful, quiet life. That is about to change.

Claire wakes up one morning to find her sister Sydney on her doorstep with a five-year-old daughter named Bay. Where Sydney has been for the past 10 years is apparently Sydney’s business. She seems to need time to work up the courage to talk about it. Meanwhile, she and Bay need a place to stay. Claire welcomes them into her house. After all, it is the family home and Sydney is family.

For years, Claire has been making special recipes that perfectly fit the occasions she is hired to cater. She knows precisely which ingredients will work their magic on those who eat them. The townsfolk don’t seem to question the intriguing effect that Claire’s food has on them. Behind her old family home grows a garden, a blooming, healthy garden that flourishes year-round. An ancient apple tree reigns over the yard, and it has a way of getting what it wants. If it seeks attention, it throws apples and tempts you with its fruit. But beware. The apples may disagree with you.

Next-door neighbor Tyler, new man on the block, has set his sights on Claire, despite Sydney’s very obvious interest and Claire’s equally obvious avoidance. Claire wants nothing to do with him --- or, at least, that’s what she tells herself --- and does her best to discourage his advances. But Tyler is not easily discouraged. Sydney can see what’s going on and makes every effort to push Claire into his arms. Sydney’s number-one concern is Bay; she has vowed not to fail her daughter like her own mother failed her.

Bascom is not a large place, so it is inevitable that Sydney would run into her first love, a man who dropped her to marry a woman of “his class.” She is more amused than chagrined, despite the fact that she left because of their breakup. From Bascom, Sydney traveled around, flirting with men, making them fall in love with her and ultimately leaving them. Maybe she needed a certain type of payback. Or perhaps she feared eventual rejection. Whatever her reasons were then, now she has come home. And she is starting to like the constancy of Bascom.

While the sisters are busy falling in love --- or not, depending on who you talk to --- Evanelle, a shirttail relation, is busy using her “gift.” See, all of the Waverley women have a gift. Claire’s, Sydney’s and Bay’s gifts are unusual yet helpful. But Evanelle’s gift is essential to the happy outcome of many lives.

GARDEN SPELLS is a delightful story of relationships, family, romance and the many things that drive all of them, with a little enchantment thrown in for good measure. “When you’re happy for yourself, it fills you. When you’re happy for someone else, it pours over.” The women of Bascom, North Carolina, will make you very happy if you just let them.

SAVANNAH BREEZE by MARY KAY ANDREWS...

Southern belle BeBe Loudermilk has a string of failed relationships under her pretty little belt. She's not the best judge of male character, and as she admits herself, she's attracted to the bad boys.

The witty and funny SAVANNAH BREEZE starts with BeBe at the Telfair Ball --- THE event of the Savannah season --- recounting her latest failed coupling. In a community where gossip flows as freely as the Mississippi, a few wagging town tongues are not about to stop BeBe from attending the fete she worked so long and hard on: "By now everybody in town knew that Emery had thrown me over for Cissy Drobish, the buck-toothed millionaire mother of his three children. It wouldn't do to have people talking about me behind my back. If they were going to talk, by God, they could just do it to my face." Dressed to kill and showing off the jewelry she didn't return to Emery, successful restaurateur BeBe struts her stuff, unaware that this is about to become a fateful night.

At the Telfair Ball, BeBe meets the "deeply tanned" Reddy, a younger investment counselor expressing quick interest in her comely endowment. It's not long before the recently jilted BeBe finds first her mind wandering to "insupportable behavior," as her mother would have called it, and then her body traveling via sports car to a romantic dalliance on an impressive yacht. Over the course of the next few weeks, Reddy wines and dines seducible BeBe, and just when she is feeling secure in his attention, he cons her --- taking her for all she is worth --- and then disappears. The savvy realtor loses everything, except for a retro 1950s motor court called the Breeze Inn on Tybee Island. A little elbow grease (okay, a lot of elbow grease) later, BeBe and her good friend Weezie, with the help of Harry, the five o'clock shadow of a fishing captain on the Island, have transformed the Inn and are bringing in paying guests.

Her fate seemingly sealed --- she has started over and has nowhere to go but up --- BeBe has made a new home. And it looks like the salty, unshaven Harry may be her next love conquest. She's settling in, flirting with new love, until news of Reddy's whereabouts surface, as do rumors of other women he has duped. BeBe is catalyzed into action. She and her pals put their heads together and come up with a plan that takes them to Ft. Lauderdale in search of the con man. Chasing down credit card receipts and donning thrift store-concocted disguises, BeBe strategizes revenge, Southern style. What follows is a great and satisfying "gotcha" moment.

HISSY FIT by MARY KAY ANDREWS...

If, on the night before your wedding, while celebrating at the rehearsal dinner with all your closest friends and family, you happened upon your husband-to-be having sex with your maid-of-honor, what would you do?

Well, if you're Keeley Murdock, you'd throw a whopper of a hissy fit.

So starts HISSY FIT, by Mary Kay Andrews. Keeley becomes the talk of Madison, Georgia when she not only cancels her wedding 24 hours before the big event, but also trashes her father's club on the night she discovers her fiancé's infidelity. Her ex's family --- embarrassed that Keeley has dumped him, wealthy, influential and incredibly vengeful --- begins to play havoc with Keeley's professional reputation as a high-end interior designer. As jobs start to disappear, Keeley and her aunt begin to despair that they will be ruined. But, hey, this is the South, and the kindness of strangers abounds.

The new guy in town --- the redheaded stranger who bought the dilapidated bra factory --- hires Keeley to revive a run-down, antiquated mansion in just six months! The task is Herculean, but Keeley's reputation is at stake, so she dives in. Little did Keeley know that the new job and the kind stranger would lead to a mystery at the heart of the town.

With Mary Kay Andrews's trademark sense of humor, HISSY FIT is a funny and quirky satire of class, etiquette and southern sensibilities. A hilarious lead character, combined with the hints of a mystery and lavish and luxurious decorating hints, make for another hit from Mary Kay Andrews.

THE ART OF MENDING by ELIZABETH BERG...

Laura Bartone, a quilt artist, and her husband Pete reconnect each evening by sharing an experience from the day and a memory from the past. THE ART OF MENDING follows the same pattern, interposing scenes from Laura's present-day life and those of her girlhood.

As the story opens, Laura muses about her sister Caroline's odd behavior while growing up. Caroline is once again acting strangely, as Laura's family heads home for a reunion. Caroline makes a big production of secretly asking for private time with Laura and their brother Steve. She wants to talk about how they grew up, suggesting that she's been having problems with some of the early family dynamics. This request mystifies and troubles Laura, who can think of nothing worth dissecting from those years.

Before Caroline can fully explain what's troubling her, their father develops health problems that land him in the hospital. When Laura visits, he hints about a mysterious occurrence in the past. Laura longs to insist he tell her, but feels she can't jeopardize his well-being.

When Caroline finally confides in her siblings, they don't know what to believe. Caroline has always been the overly dramatic family member. Surely she isn't an outright liar, yet her shocking allegations are so over-the-top, they seem to be fiction. How can Caroline's accusations mesh with the memories of her siblings? Whether they accept what Caroline says or not, Laura realizes that steps need to be taken to mend their family. They must discuss the past with their parents. But as the siblings prepare to introduce the topic, tragedy intercepts. How can the family explore their secrets and memories in the face of their overwhelming grief?

Laura's dear husband Pete and her best friend Maggie support her quest to uncover the truth while dealing with the present. They also share incidents from their own lives that demonstrate that ugly secrets can be hidden long and well in the most unlikely families.

With difficulty, Laura pushes through her initial denial and anger, probing the past she shared with her sister. She insists that their brother join her painful quest. As Caroline confides more incidents, Laura begins to consider the possibility that her sister is telling the truth --- yet she's not fully convinced by Caroline. Are Laura's own childhood memories completely false? Why weren't there more signs? Why did her sister wait so long to tell? It takes a climatic event to convince Laura which version of the past is real, and then she must take immediate action.

IT ONLY TAKES A MOMENT by MARY JANE CLARK...

Everything is going Eliza Blake's way. She is the host of the top-rated KEY News morning show, has a beautiful daughter named Janie, close friends and all the advantages money can buy.

It hasn't always been so easy, however. Eliza lost her husband to illness before Janie was born. After giving birth, she experienced a nervous breakdown but has managed to work her way back to good mental health and a happy and well-rounded life. Everything is coming up roses. But as we all know, roses have thorns. And even the most well-tended garden has weeds, as Eliza will soon find out.

The media cannot get enough of Eliza. They focus endlessly on her professional and personal lives, and she is splashed on the cover of every tabloid and periodical from coast to coast. Unfortunately, sometimes notoriety comes with a price.

Eliza returns home from work one day to find the door open, and seven-year-old Janie and her caregiver, Mrs. Garcia, are nowhere to be found. Not one to panic, she assumes they have made a trip into town. She falls asleep after a busy day only to awaken later that evening to find that neither Janie nor Mrs. Garcia have returned. Panic sets in.

Eliza dives into action by notifying the authorities and her close friends. Soon everyone rallies around this stoic single mom in the hopes of locating the missing caregiver and her precious daughter.

At first it seems that Mrs. Garcia has taken Janie as she picked her up from summer camp without Eliza's permission. Eliza knows Mrs. Garcia, however, and she'd trust her with her life. It soon becomes apparent, though, that Mrs. Garcia took the little girl under duress. But who on earth wants the child, where are they keeping her and what are their plans for a youngster whose life has barely begun?

All of Eliza's fan mail is scrutinized for clues. The FBI is called in. Child sex offenders in a 50-mile radius are contacted and checked out. No stone is left unturned as everyone knows they are racing against the clock and that each hour that passes decrease little Janie's odds of coming home alive or even being found at all.

When a psychic appears at the police station, she is written off as a nutcase, but eventually, when her visions check out, she is called back in to share her information. While the police remain unconvinced, Eliza clings to the belief that this woman may be the very one to help her locate Janie before it's too late.

THE CURE FOR MODERN LIFE by LISA TUCKER...

Ten-year-old Danny's mother has a drug problem. He only vaguely remembers when she was able to hold down a job and really take care of him and his three-year-old sister Isabelle, when they had a real home. Now, the family lives in a Philadelphia crack house (a dubious step up from the abandoned car they occupied previously), and Danny's mom is always either high or sick from withdrawal symptoms when she is unable to score a hit. As for Danny, he spends his days begging for money to buy Isabelle's necessities and worrying about his mother's addiction and his sister’s developmental delays.

Forty-year-old Matthew Connelly also has a drug problem, although his is both more subtle and more insidious than Danny's mom's. Matthew is an executive at a major Philadelphia-based pharmaceutical company. He has worked his way to the top, starting at the company in his 20s after leaving medical school, basing much of his professional achievements on the success of one particular pain-killing drug --- a medication he has overseen since its R&D phase, one that is now the most commonly prescribed medication for chronic pain.

With his high-powered job, chic urban loft, high-end electronics and a series of beautiful but shallow girlfriends, Matthew seems like the last person in the world to want a family. But when his path crosses those of Danny and Isabelle, he takes them in on a whim. He may regret his decision the next morning, but not before the two children have enmeshed themselves in his life and in the lives of his closest friends.

These include Ben, Matthew's unlikely best friend and an award-winning medical researcher who has devoted his life to solving diseases that strike the world's poor, and Ben's girlfriend, Amelia. Amelia used to be Matthew's girlfriend, even (if he had to grudgingly admit it) the love of his life. But Amelia, a bioethicist who became disillusioned by Matthew's professional activities, has now devoted her life to exposing the injustices and immoral practices of big pharmaceutical companies (including Matthew's) and to Ben, a morally upstanding man who couldn't be less like Matthew.

This novel is both impressively ambitious in scope and startlingly intimate in its explorations. She delves into big social issues, including the corruption of the health care field, the questionable practices of large corporations, and the relationship between the press and business. But she also explores, in a particularly insightful approach, the questions of why we love the people we do, even when that love seems to make no sense. In doing so, she writes from the point of view not only of Amelia but also of Matthew and Danny. For the most part, she credibly and convincingly offers insights into the emotional lives of an anti-emotional man and a boy who is as innocent as he is world-weary.

THE CURE FOR MODERN LIFE, with its numerous plot twists and steady pacing, is simultaneously a compelling page-turner and a provocative examination of how a small, diverse group of characters is doing their best to navigate the unfamiliar, treacherous moral landscape of modern life. Frequent flashbacks and a strong sense of place add to the novel's cinematic feeling.

NINE MONTHS IN AUGUST by ADRIANA BOURGOIN...

"You wake up, take a test...and then, there it is, you're pregnant. And pregnancy means a baby and a baby means we're someone's mother and father and Oh, my God." Revelations like this fly hot and heavy when Gretchen Fox finds that, despite her perfect planning of everything, she is accidentally and irrevocably pregnant, with no category set up in her Filofax. For a woman who makes her living as an event organizer at a large hotel, this is a major boo-boo.

Having started pregnancy off balance, Gretchen compounds the chaos, shuffling from happening to happening without her usual aplomb. It helps that her mentor, Meredith (knowledgeable down to the last apgar when it comes to other people's pregnancies but at a loss as the mother of an obstreperous toddler), and her best, inseparable friend Louisa are pregnant too. Gretchen obediently goes to Meredith’s OB and keeps meeting her two pals for coffee, until one black day when Louisa starts to bleed and cramp. With the loss of Louisa's baby comes the loss of Louisa’s loyalty and Gretchen's emotional anchor.

Luckily Gretchen’s husband Fredrick is there for her. He's thrilled at the prospect of fatherhood. His only flaw as a partner seems to be his inability to keep secrets from his family, in whom, Gretchen learns to her embarrassment, Fredrik confides the couple's most intimate moments. Fredrik, a carpenter who looks seriously sexy in shorts, goes on loving (and making love to) Gretchen despite her rapidly emerging facial hair, wide butt and constant need for sleep. It is Fredrik who, despising all "Hallmark holidays," nonetheless buys a newborn-sized onesie and presents it to Gretchen on Valentine's Day when she is a scant six weeks along.

However, Gretchen makes it clear that despite his virtues, Fredrik isn't one of those "we're pregnant"-type dads, and for that she’s grateful, "because if he even, for one minute, attempted to take credit for the work my body is doing right now, what with the stretching, scarring and gum bleeding, I'd have to kill him."

Gretchen is the prototype of modern womanhood. A smart, thirty-something first-time mom with family issues, her mother has never allowed herself to recover from Gretchen's father's sudden death. This makes it hard for Gretchen to unlink from her own grief, and with a grandchild on the way, she’s taken to calling herself “Mother Fox” to her daughter’s chagrin. Once Gretchen begins to regroup and accept the fact that she’s definitely going to have a baby, she buys hundreds of dollars worth of pregnancy guides and reads them all. She sets up a Pregnancy section in her cherished Filofax and starts making copious lists. Her Internet searches on such subjects as amniocentesis are as terrifying as they are informative, and we agonize for her when she has to face the possibility, dramatically played out in the mid-section of the book, that her baby may have a genetic defect.

As the pregnancy gathers steam, Gretchen has to deal with the takeover of the hotel by a big corporation and Louisa’s publicly-displayed extramarital dalliance. Everything seems to be converging on that first week in August when the baby is due to put in his appearance. Amid the confusion there are compensations: Mother Fox shares some shards of Gretchen’s fractured past that bring her father back to the realm of happy memory. Fredrik’s overbearing family pitches in to create the nursery of Gretchen’s dreams. Once it’s time for the labor --- during a city-wide blackout --- we’re pushing along with our heroine and trying not to laugh, expecting and getting a healthy…well, you’ll need to read to the end to find out the gender of Gretchen’s offspring, because she decided not to be told in advance.

THE RIGHTEOUS MEN by SAM BOURNE...

British journalist Will Monroe has landed a plum job at the New York Times, but he has to prove himself before anyone on the staff will take a rookie like him seriously. Then his human interest story on the murder of a kindhearted pimp in Brooklyn lands on the front page, and he becomes the paper's new rising star. Temporarily reassigned from metro to the more prestigious national desk, Will uncovers yet another murdered-lowlife-with-a good-heart story while on assignment in Seattle. This time, the victim is a survivalist who was once a suspect in the Ted Kaczynski-Unabomber case. Once again, big splash at the paper. But now, Will has a big problem: someone has inexplicably kidnapped his wife Beth, a child psychiatrist, and it's all his fault.

His only clues lead him to the Hasidic Jewish community of Crown Heights in Brooklyn, where things go downhill in a big way. Blindfolded, abducted and manhandled, Will discovers the underbelly of an ultra-orthodox sect that worships a long-dead rabbi. He is released and eventually turns to two friends for help: Tom, a computer techie, and TC, Will's ex-girlfriend, who has a brilliant mind and an uncanny ability to solve all manner of enigmas and codes and other assorted puzzlements. Beth's abduction, he learns, is somehow tied to an ancient prophecy that has survived thousands of years, one based on the biblical story of God's destruction of Sodom when not a single righteous man could be found in the city. According to the prophecy, at any given time, there are 36 designated righteous men on earth known only to God; their heinous public lives provide the perfect foil for the good deeds they do in secret. The prophecy warns that if they should all die within a given time frame, God will destroy the world.

Will, of course, has unknowingly uncovered the identities of two of those men, both of whom were described as "righteous" in his interviews with benefactors of the men's goodness. Two down and 34 to go, it would seem, except that all around the world other unscrupulous "righteous men" have been murdered without making a blip on the radar screen of anyone who might link the crimes together --- until a murder halfway around the world points Will in the right direction. The clock is ticking, and he needs to find the last few righteous men in order to prevent their deaths and thus save the world.

Let's pause for a minute or two and catch our collective breath. If the thought of the fate of the world resting in the hands of an NYT reporter gives you the willies, you're not alone. But if you can get past that and look at the prophecy itself, it's a pretty cool premise for a novel. What's more, the Hasidic angle makes for a far more interesting read than all those other religious thrillers that rely on crazed Christian conspiracy theories to spice things up. Not that there aren't any crazed Christian conspirators in THE RIGHTEOUS MEN; let's just say that the Hasidim steal the show.

Some readers may be put off by such things as the abundance of riddles Will receives on his BlackBerry, the correlation between the ancient prophecy and GPS coordinates, a twist involving Will's father (I won't risk spoiling the ending by elaborating on that), and the frequent use of the word "reckon" in the dialogue of American characters. It's a legitimate word for Brits to use, but Americans sound like caterwaulin' critters in an Arkansas holler when they use it.

INSIDE OUT GIRL by TISH COHEN...

INSIDE OUT GIRL is a book for adults about children. It takes a sympathetic and sensitive look at the hidden lives of youngsters, sees what they see and tells us how they feel --- about bullying, pop culture and even being gay.

Len Bean is a widower trying, often desperately, to raise Olivia, a six-year-old with "special needs," in this case a learning disorder that gives her the appearance of a higher-than-average verbal intelligence masking a total inability to understand what people are trying to tell her. If you tell Olivia "You're pulling my leg," her eyes go to your legs. Olivia thinks, hopes, that every day is her birthday and keeps on believing that children, any children, will come to her party. For Len, life is less than a party, knowing as he does that Olivia will repel rather than attract other kids, and will need a high level of personal care all her life.

Len meets Rachel Berman on the roadside, where he is trying ineptly to change a tire while looking out for the obstreperous Olivia. Rachel knows how to change a tire. She is the highly competent managing editor of a children's magazine called Perfect Parent, which has been losing sales lately because the reality of parenting is less than perfect. She takes time out of her packed schedule, which includes monitoring her two adolescent kids and unruly mother, to help Len, whose specialty is divorce and adoption law. His profession is part of the attraction --- that and Olivia, whose gun-metal gray eyes speak volumes to Rachel, reminding her starkly of a secret in her past that will come to light in the course of her crisis-to-crisis life as a single mom trying to engage in a courtship after a bad divorce.

As Len and Rachel become something more than friends, Olivia innocently believes that Janie and Dustin are her friends as well. She can't understand that people in their early teen years would rather, in the parlance of Janie and Dustin's favorite made-up game, "kiss a dead body crawling with a million trillion maggots" than be seen hanging out in public with a special needs kid. This leads to a terrible betrayal of Olivia. But worse is to come.

Thoughts of Olivia, and her growing affection for the child, have unlocked a Pandora's box of feelings in Rachel. Olivia's needs link Rachel back to her long-hidden past sins. And Len has something else going --- something worse, something that threatens Olivia's future in the most crucial way. But neither of them wants to talk about it. Until Olivia gets lost while the two families are out together experimenting in blending, and a Code Adam is released. Her loss and recovery signal that it's time to talk.

Through the eyes of Olivia and Rachel's kids, Dustin and Janie, we are led into the often seamy underworld of junior high school. At 14 Janie is pretty sure she's a lesbian --- that's a tough revelation for someone her age and made more so by her frustrated crush on Tabitha, a rich girl, a snob, one of the in-crowd. By guile and shameless fawning, Janie manages to worm her way into Tabitha's inner circle, and through careful plotting she gets her alone in her bedroom and sets up for a kiss. Not surprisingly her best-planned lay becomes the perfect storm of disgrace, with ripples of cruel gossip and mistreatment in its wake. Janie wants to die, but the alternative is to go ahead and have sex with a boy, to white-wash her public image, and punish herself for her stupidity in loving a girl. And she might have succeeded in charting her self-destruction --- but it is miraculously, if unconventionally, rescued by the despised and ignored Olivia.

INSIDE OUT GIRL is a crisp and involving novel that all parents would enjoy, and it's entirely suitable for older teens as well. Without the slightest hint of preaching, it throws a sympathetic lifeline to single parents. It gives excellent insight into what it must be like to raise a child with special needs, especially those of a more perplexing, less socially understood sort. It shows how trying to be the "perfect parent" can lead to pitfalls, and reveals some broader definitions of love and caring within and beyond the conventional family.

WIT'S END by KAREN JOY FOWLER...

Rima Lanisell is 29 years old when she arrives to visit her godmother, famous mystery novelist Addison Early, in Santa Cruz, California. Rima lost the last member of her family when her father, a journalist who didn't hesitate to document Rima's most intimate personal life for his column, died of cancer. In the dark, creepy, brooding atmosphere at Wit's End, Addison's rambling ancient Victorian, Rima hopes to recover from her losses but also yearns to discover the truth about her father's relationship with Addison.

At one time the two of them had been friends of some kind, but they had become estranged over the years. Was it because Addison had named a character in one of her mysteries Bim Lanisell (Addison's father's name)? Or could the reason be tied more to the fact that the fictional Bim Lanisell killed three people, including his wife? Had Rima's mother taken offense and caused the rift between the real Bim and Addison? And just who was the real Bim Lanisell? Certainly not the person he depicted himself to be in his newspaper column.

Meanwhile, Rima's uneasiness in her new surroundings is palpable, although it never causes her to lose her self-effacing humor (she lists all the things she's lost over the years, which includes a boyfriend, four cell phones, the keys to the car and the car, not to mention "one basically functional family"). Addison's house is filled with dollhouses, which are dioramas of the murder scene in each of her books. When one tiny doll murder victim corpse goes missing, Rima wonders who would take it: The used-to-be-homeless housekeeper, Tilda? Tilda's odd son? The young couple who walks Addison's dogs? She also wonders if she herself is under suspicion.

Meanwhile, Rima reads through letters addressed to Maxwell Lane, the detective main character in Addison's mystery series. She is so intrigued by letters from a woman in a now-defunct commune called Holy City that she impulsively answers one, signing it as if Maxwell Lane himself is replying.

As Rima continues her search for her father's true past, she delves online, discovering fan fiction based on Addison's mysteries, an outspoken and divided community of Maxwell Lane's fans, and even discussions about Addison's visiting goddaughter, Rima. She realizes that Maxwell Lane paraphernalia (such as the missing dollhouse corpse) would sell for a fortune on eBay.

Rima dreams of Maxwell Lane even as she continues to read his letters and the online speculation about him. She also discovers parallels and connections between real life and the fictional world in Addison's books. The line between real and imagined people blurs, leaving Rima to wonder what is true.

A PLACE OF HIDING by ELIZABETH GEORGE...

A PLACE OF HIDING opens with Deborah and Simon St. James bidding goodnight to their guests, Helen Clyde and Thomas Lynley. A few minutes later, the doorbell rings. Deborah is shocked to discover Cherokee River, the brother of her friend and American roommate China River, on her doorstep. With no prompting he tells the couple that he has come to ask for help. His sister has been arrested for murder and is in a musty jail on the isolated island of Guernsey, which is situated in the English Channel. He prefaces his story by taking all responsibility for her trouble. His explanation is long and complicated but very convincing. Thus, by the time he's finished, Deborah feels duty-bound to drop everything and help them.

Simon is not as eager to get involved and he's not about to let Deborah go off with a charismatic and handsome young man, about whom he knows nothing. The stakes grow exponentially once the threesome land on Guernsey and each damning puzzle piece starts to fit into place. China River has been charged with the grizzly murder of Guy Brouard, the richest and most influential man on the island. He and his sister immigrated to the Channel Island, where he chose a very pubic life and spread his money around. Ruth Brouard, on the other hand, preferred to live a quiet and more private life.

Their wealth and lifestyles separated them from most of the population, but they felt a spiritual connection to this island's populace because they too were victims of the Holocaust. One of the island's war heroes owned an extraordinary collection of memorabilia. He, his son and Brouard were planning a World War II museum to honor those who were at the mercy of the Nazis during occupation.

Simon tries to convince Le Gallez, the investigator in charge of the murder, that many islanders, even some who were part of the plans for the memorial, are much more likely to have killed Brouard than China River. However, not a shred of evidence emerges against them. But Simon is relentless, determined to find anyone who might have a motive for wanting Brouard dead. Still, the inspector has no interest in looking beyond his current prisoner; for him, the case has been solved. How and why China River became the prime suspect is the matrix for this multilayered, well-plotted and highly suspenseful novel.

BETWEEN SISTERS by KRISTIN HANNAH...

On the surface, sisters Meghann Dontess and Claire Cavenaugh couldn't be more different. Forty-two-year-old Meghann, a high-powered Seattle divorce lawyer, is known as the "Bitch of Belltown." She lives alone in an expensive high rise and counters loneliness with one-night stands. Younger sister Claire, in contrast, is surrounded by love --- from her doting father, her five-year-old daughter Alison and the group of women friends, the Bluesers, she has had since high school. Small town life in Hayden and looking after her father's campground suit her right down to the tee. Her relationship with her older sister is fraught with tension and innuendo, so she's never really been in love.

That is until Claire meets Mr. Right on her annual summer vacation with the Bluesers. Bobby Austin takes the stage during a band break. At thirty-five, Claire falls in love for the first time. Luckily for her, Bobby is equally smitten and, back in Hayden, they quickly make plans to marry.

Meanwhile, Meghann's stress level has been raised to an unbearable pitch. A client's enraged ex-husband tries to shoot her and Meghann's partner forces her to take a vacation. She visits Hayden, not really having any place else to go. When she can't talk Claire out of getting married, she impulsively offers to plan her sister's wedding. Megan was actually more of a mother than an older sister to Claire, due to the shenanigans of their oft-married, stripper/actress mother.

Then there's the seemingly unconnected Joe, a melancholy drifter who eventually goes home to Hayden to face his sister Gina (one of the Bluesers) and his ghosts.

All kinds of sparks fly in the small town of Hayden, between Meghann and her sister Claire, as well as between Joe and Meghann. Gradually the sisters break down the barriers between them. Claire gets married and it looks like everything will work out fine. Finally, a medical crisis forces the family to confront the realities of love.

And although Jack's television jobs have taken them all over the country, now, in the small town of Echo Beach on the Oregon coast, she finally has a house that feels like home.

Jack is restless in his job as a noontime anchor in Portland, Oregon, and continues to hunt the big story that will give him another chance in the media big leagues. Jack is wooed away to New York and renewed fame as a sports broadcaster.

THE TRIUMPH OF KATIE BYRNE by BARBARA TAYLOR BRADFORD...

Her two best friends, Carly and Denise, share her ambitions, and the three of them can often be found after school in an old barn, practicing scenes from Shakespeare or other classic plays. Encouraged by their drama teachers and parents, they dream of the day that the three of them will take Broadway by storm, each with her name in lights.

However, all of their dreams are destroyed one afternoon. The three girls are rehearsing, as usual, in the barn --- each is going to perform a speech in the upcoming Christmas concert. When Katie finishes rehearsing her speech, she realizes how late it is. She apologizes to her friends for not helping to clean up the barn, but they reassure her that her they want to stay a while longer and continue to rehearse. As Katie leaves the barn, she senses that she is being watched, but seeing nobody, she shrugs off the feeling. She hurries home, not realizing until she arrives that she had left her school backpack at the barn.

Katie's mother doesn't want her to go back to the barn alone in the dark, so she waits for her brother Niall to get home from work. When he drives her back, the barn lights are still on and the door is open. Denise and Carly aren't there, but their coats and backpacks still are lined up neatly against the wall. Fighting panic, Katie and Niall begin searching for the girls, calling out their names. They hear movement in the woods and go towards it, stumbling over Denise's body, horrifically beaten and lifeless. Soon after, they find Carly, also badly beaten but still breathing, barely alive. The police arrive, Carly is taken to the hospital, and an investigation begins. Unfortunately, no suspects turn up, and Carly, the only witness, remains in a coma.

Ten years pass. Katie has studied acting at several fine drama schools and is a struggling actress in New York. Finally, the opportunity of a lifetime presents itself to her, and Katie is about to star in a Broadway play about the Brontës. However, she is still haunted by the attack on her friends --- the case is never solved and never closed. Katie must come to terms with the past if she is to succeed in the present and future.

IN PLAIN SIGHT by TARA TAYLOR QUINN...

Janet (Jan) McNeil is a very dedicated individual. She's dedicated to her job, protecting the good people of Arizona through her role as state prosecutor. She's dedicated to her emotionally frail mother and distant brother, and she desperately wants to be a dedicated mother to Hailey, a young foster child who came into her courtroom during her brief tenure in Family Court.

Trying to keep all these balls in the air is hard enough, not to mention the fact that she's handling one of the state's most controversial cases --- the trial of Jacob Hall, a member of the white supremacist group, Ivory Nation. Hall is really just the tip of the iceberg of crime and terrorism in the area; he's merely a henchman for the group's charismatic leader, Bobby Donahue. By pursuing this case, which she's been trying to form for years now, Jan is leaving herself open (as well as her family) to unseen dangers. No wonder she is plagued by horrible nightmares. And no one knows more about this than her sympathetic neighbor, Simon Green.

Simon works at home writing technical manuals, but his sharp instincts tip his hand and reveal his past. He's harboring his own secrets and more than his fair share of guilt over the death of his twin brother. He's an ex-police officer who's recently been recruited by an old colleague to covertly investigate reports of a terrorist training camp in the area. As he gets closer to the mastermind behind the whole operation, what he discovers can put him right in the line of fire. Simon is also concerned for his neighbor, and more than a little smitten with her. But even though they've lived next door to each other for a few years now, he finds it hard to make any headway with his fiercely independent neighbor.

Jan works with her trusted colleague Andrew and a police detective armed with a secret informant to help assemble the case against Hall. One false move and years of work could be all in vain. As she gets closer to nailing him, the threats against her grow more dangerous. The timing of this case couldn't be more tenuous as she is about to be given the green light to adopt young Hailey.

A WALK TO REMEMBER by NICHOLAS SPARKS...

Nicholas Sparks writes about a young man and woman in 1958 on the coast in Morehead City in Beaufort, North Carolina. This is the story of their first love. Morehead City is the type of town where the kids walk around barefoot from April through October and the townspeople wave hello from their cars whether they know the person or not. Landon Carter is a seventeen-year-old high school senior whose father is a United States congressman. He and his father are strangers --- his father is on the road quite a bit of the time and he spends the majority of time being raised by his mother. His father insists that he needs to run for student body president to increase his chances of getting into a good college. His father believes that "We Carters always win" and he wants to mold Landon into a miniature version of himself.

Landon wins the election and one of his responsibilities is attending the homecoming dance. Due to the fact he has just broken up with his girlfriend, he doesn't have a date and in a panic, he pulls out his yearbook and scans the pages for someone available. He finally decides on Jamie Sullivan, a junior, who is the minister's daughter, knowing that nobody else will ask her to the dance. Jamie wears old sweaters, plaid skirts and her hair up in a bun. She carries the Bible wherever she goes and believes that whatever happens in life is according to the Lord's plan. She is obviously not your typical high school student and not someone in whom Landon or his friends would be interested.

Both Landon and Jamie star in the school Christmas play that Jamie's father has written. The play details the personal story of his life after his wife's death and his search for love and the meaning of life within his daughter. Jamie plays the angel and Landon, the lead male role. Over time, in rehearsals and occasional talks together on her front porch, Landon starts to like Jamie. As a result, he becomes a better person, helping her do good deeds and accompanying her to the orphanage. The opening night of the play, he is amazed when he first sees her walk on the stage dressed as an angel, with her hair loose and flowing down her back. She glitters onstage and he falls for her true beauty.

With plot twists and turns and an untold secret that will change their lives forever, Landon and Jamie fall in love. Pain and sorrow lie ahead but the story lets you believe in the power of love and that dreams do come true. Their story is unforgettable and as you wipe your tears away, you come to an unbelievable end --- the sort of story that only Nicholas Sparks can tell.

Exotic Short Stories of Moody Old Snake

Once upon a time, there was an old man called Tok Perlis, he died and was buried at the foot of Bukit Ngolang. Superstitious folks said this Tok Perlis possessed supernatural powers. Anyone who broke taboos on his burial ground ( I wouldn't know the taboos, would you?) incurred the displeasure of Tok Perlis who would appear in the form of a snake before the transgressor. The snake refused to leave until a medicine man appeased its anger with rituals and offerings. Errr, does this mean that Perlis gets its name from a moody dead old man?
